    Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 255/35/19

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Getting new wheels and considering getting the Pilot Sport 4S in 255/35/19. Will be running a square setup on VMR V801’s in 19X8.5 Anthracite Metallic. Have no plans on lowering the car.

I’m just concerned that this will be too tall of a setup, I want to fill in the wheel well more with a fatter tire but don’t want it to end up looking lifted or truck like.

With the 8.5, a 245/35 4S will achieve the desired look, while not looking too tall. I had exactly that on my S3. To pull off the 255/35, you'd certainly want a 30mm or so drop.

Is your S3 lowered? I don’t want to lower the car that’s why I was thinking the 255 would be better vs the 245.

It is. I was only showing you the 245/35 on an 8.5 wheel. No matter, the 245 will be the best look. The 255 is going to look too tall, and the car will end up appearing lifted. Trust me on this... I know exactly what you're after. With the 245/35 4S on 8.5, you'll end up with a meatier look than the stock rubber band look, but not too tall either.

Cool, 245 it is. Thanks for the advice!

Certainly! I did not want a thin tire on my S3, and put a lot of though into the perfect wheel width and tire spec, while not looking goofy at the same time.

    With say a 9.5 on 255/35 and a drop... that’s the bewbs!

    You’ll be pleased

245/35-19 in Michelin is like 255/35-19 on others.
I run that size, and noticed a power "feel" difference.
If you want something like a rear 19" stock tire size, 235/35-19 or 255/30-19 like the fronts.
Want meat? 245/35-19 for PS4S, but you will lose wheel tq (longer legs) and your OD will be off as well (which, you can correct with vcds).

This is in ref to 19x8.5 wheels.

for me the 255-30-19 ps4 is perfect. its much wider than the 245 so the sidewall is similar (doesnt look stretched at all)

the 255 30 is the freak of the bunch and is actually just as wide as the 265

Yeah I'm looking at lowering either H&R Springs or something else. Have 19x8.5 squared setup. And was thinking 255/30 PS4S, would this work? Or should I do something else? I don't want a stretched look, just want something that looks clean and fit well.

Just an FYI, $70.00 rebate from TireRack if you purchase four Michelin tires. Fill out the form and they send you a $70.00 MasterCard.

That's what I run man, I don't think they look stretched at all. Great grip too

How many miles are you getting out of the stock tires? I'm not happy with the Pirelli's (they stunk on my SRT also) and my last car had Super Sports. The Super Sports were awesome so I'd love to switch over when the time comes.

255 on 8.5 is awesome, and with your drop the 30 series is perfect

And to remind all, this thread is to help the OP choose between 245/35 and 255/35. Mission accomplished

Stock tires look a lil stretched in that size with the P-sh!ts...
Will the PS4S look perfect in 255/30-19?
Only way is to pull off a stock wheel in that tire size, and look at it from the top.
Tread looks flush with rim? Or, does it have a stretched look like stock?

I 'probably' would try a 265/30-19 PS4S tire, all around.
Because, even on FL roads, the fronts would often scare the heck out of me, after rolling over some... imperfect... roads.
Stock front wheels/tires at 90mph will be like 91.1mph after...

Just a tad more sidewall @ +0.1", and +0.4" more width.
Gotta be someone here running that size on a 19x8.5 wheel.

I don’t want to spend the $$ on 255/30/19 Pilot Sport 4S. Right now I can get the Pilot Sport 4S in the 245 size for about $800.00 after the mail in rebate. The all season Pilot Sports I can get for around $700.00 after the rebate. The 245 is fine and will fill in the wheel well a little more. I have no plans on lowering the car so that fine with me.

Yeah, I am running 245/35-19 square, and love them.
My pic above shows how PSS's fill the wells pretty good.

This thread was actually useful for me as my front tire developed sidewall bulge.

Currently lowered on MSS with BBS RS-GT and spacer. I will be trying out 255 and hoping it does not rub on the back. Front shouldn’t be a problem for me as it already has 255.

I just went from 255/30 19s to 265/30 19s PS4Ss (which have a slightly taller sidewall). Feels a little smoother now. Though new tires always feel a bit smoother than the worn out set.

I'm coming from the 225/40 r18. Was really surprised by the relative harshness of the 235/35 r19s on the loaner S3 I had last time I was in for a service.

We're about to install our second set of 245/40/18 on RSe10 Neuspeed's, now involving the Michelin A/S4S. Have worn the Michelin A/S3+ to 3/32', after 18k miles. Again 14k miles was run at very high speed twisty country back roads. Not at all like average vehicle mileage! We make these runs 2-3 times a week, weather permitting and averaging 80-100 miles per run, plus the 35 miles each way getting to these roads.

Our back roads runs at speed now approaching 14k miles out of a total 18k miles have survived well and delivered great traction or our very fast twisty country back roads. The original 235/35/19 Pirelli's only lasted TWO DAYS, with two of them having sidewall failure from bad pot holes, hidden in the tree shadows on these roads. Too bad our roads have had little or no menantence over the past 8-10 years!

It appears this is typical, as we venture on other different roads and find them in need of maintenance, with some 'Low Profile Tire Killer' pot holes all to frequently.

Yeah I live around Phily, and even the highways are an embarrassment. If 18s are good enough for the Carrera Cup, they're good enough for me lol. Function forward. Are you lowered Rod? Was going to go Bilstein B12 Pro, but the added ride height of the larger wheel would negate that. Wondering to what extent the taller sidewall on the 245/40 18 eases the stiffer ride of the B12 Sport kit. If it all fits lol

No, not lowered and only PHYSICAL changes has been the wheels/tires size and the addition of a real spare tire. Haven't needed it yet, but it did help another RS 3 owner who's 'spare tire fix' didn't work. No pressue in the can!
