    Black Optics Package post purchase

Has anyone gone through having the Black Optics Package added to their A3/S3 after a purchase? I assume it would be more then the $1300 up front cost.

I have. Was about 4-5k if i recall correctly. that includes all parts and installation. But that price also includes painted side mirrors, rs3 rear spoiler, etc...
All parts were new shipped from Germany by Europrice.us
If I could go back I would probably have got the BO package. Then again I very much prefer the magride (non BO) wheels..

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I would have definitely got the BO package, but got a great deal on a S3 in the lot with the exterior/interior color I wanted (navarra blue) but was just lacking the BOs. I much agree with you on the wheels also.

Couldn’t you get this done for a much cheaper overall price by having someone wrap the front grills and just finding a good paint shop to paint the mirrors? Or is there more to the black optics package that I’m missing? I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing, I feel like there’s too much chrome on this car.

The front grill trim is obviously different. But so is the front grill plastic. The non BOplastic fins and support are in platinum grey while the black optics plastic fins and support are a matte black... makes a big difference...

I wrapped my chrome in matte black before and it was cool for awhile. not perfect. and i eventually removed it and had it professionally done in gloss black. STILL not perfect and overtime it gets worse. The real stuff has been so much better... You can prob get away with painting the rear bumper trim piece gloss black without any issues though..

I wanted to Black Optics look myself, but found the perfect car (2015 Sepang Blue with 15k miles, B&O, etc) I decided to tackle some changes myself. I vinyl wrapped the roof to match the sunroof panel back to the rear window, vinyl wrapped the chrome on the window trim. I bought a OEM BO grill and installed that, and put on carbon fiber front and rear valances from EMD, and carbon fiber rear spoiler and mirror caps off of eBay. Probably $2k all in but she's unique!

A fair number of customers have gone the route of fitting Black Optic items after purchase. Seems generally that people find good deals or the exact mix of options with black optic aren't readily available. It does obviously cost more to fit parts after the fact that when optioned into a purchase, but it can be done:

    A3, S3, RS3 8V | '14-'16 Exterior Parts

    A3, S3, RS3 8V | '17+ Exterior Parts

Some items like grilles are not always the easiest to have wrapped and coating trims up front tends to lead to dings are not a long lasting solution. Wrapping window trims is a nice solution as they don't take the type of beating the front of the car does plus it saves money in installation. Rear trims are easily installed and match the front for a full factory matching solution.

I've got black optics - but if I had Navarra Blue I would keep the chrome, looks classy IMO. If you need some reassurance go watch Safe on Netflix - the main guy drives and S5 instead of an S3 - but he has Navarra Blue with the chrome effects and to me it just looks amazing.

    Help needed....

    I have a 2019 S3 Sedan. US Market.
    Color: Nano Gray.

My 1st Audi and a beautiful car, except for the front grill, which would look better w/the Blackout Package. (How the hell did I miss this when ordering!)

Anyway, I found the grill on numerous sites, and hopefully my Audi dealership will beat any online price....

    GRILLE | S3 POST-FACELIFT BLACK OPTIC. $645

    Q. What's the lowest price anyone's paid for a new OEM Black Optic grille?

    Q. How many hours of labor and what will the 'approximate' cost be, for my Audi dealer to install just the Black Optic grill on my ride?

    Thanks.

Install the grill yourself. It’s not to bad, just meticulous. It took me about 4-5 hours on my first try. I expect the dealer to charge you at least 3-4 hours

LOL. I honestly would NEVER pay $645 for an rs3 grill. I got one off ebay for like $150 shipped! It looks and feels amazing. The quality is nice, especially for the price. I then had a shop install it for $200, because 1- it is an annoying but not difficult install, that I didn't want to deal with. 2- Just takes time and I'd rather pay someone else to use theirs. =)

This is what I’m going through now. Have people had good experiences with the eBay RS3 style grills? I know ebay is really the only option when it comes the the RS style grill for the SQ5. I found carbon fiber mirror caps and I plan on wrapping the chrome trim. Just need a grill and rear valance

    Thanks....

Euro parts for less sell them at $535.92.

The 'Black optic center front S3 grill'.

Not the RS3 grill. I'm not interested in that, though they have that one also.

Yeah, I'm lazy, I'll let the pros install it. All those clips and sensors....not my thing.

I was skeptical too about buying a rs3 grille from eBay; took me awhile to decide. However, after ordering and installing, I was surprised how well the fitment was and the quality.
