2015 A4 Lost my only key..

Hey guys, I recently acquired a 2015 A4 and lost my only key. Called my local dealer and they want $650 plus tax for a new key . The car also have to be towed to them, so that's another $100.
Locksmith said they can't program it, their software is only good for up to 2013 models...
What options do I have? Is it possible to read the immo data from the ECU or BCM and make a new key without going to the dealer?

$650 is a little high. Realistically $450-500 is about average for a fob with valet key and programming.

Had 2 key fobs cut and programmed at the dealer for $470/piece. $650 is too high.

I am in a similar situation in that I only have one main key fob, need to buy either an emergency key or another fob. My dealer said it'll cost $70 for the plastic emergency key plus $150 for programming or $300ish for a new fob + the same price for programming. Call around and even if you gotta drive a little to save $100-$200 it will be worth it.

Unfortunately your Dealer is taking advantage of your situation. You do need a new key/fob that you should only buy from dealer because it will need programming that only the Audi dealer can do and may require proof of ownership for car if they don't know you, they need information from Audi to recode your immobilizer to work with the new key/fob.
I recommend buying the key/fob from dealer or authorized online Audi Parts Dealer because if for any reason the Audi Dealer can't program new key they can't blame it on a non genuine part from ebay.
This process is a PIA and expensive but also at the same time makes it harder for someone to steal your Audi.

This is reinforcing my need to get a 2nd key/fob, my used Avant only came with 1 key........

I bought an extended warranty for my wife's 2005 A6 when we bought it used back in 2008. The warranty company paid for a 2nd key fob as part of the warranty even though the car only came with a single key. I was shocked when they said they'd do that. Fortunately, both my 2014 A4 and 2014 Q7 both came with two key fobs so I was very happy about that. I think I would insist on a 2nd key when buying a used Audi.

That was my thought. They won't show up and tow you across the street here for under $150. But $650 is high for the key + programming. I had a new key made & programmed at a dealer here for about $250. But the tow charge to MN might be a deal killer.

And yes, this is dealer only. No short cuts.

Idk where in Florida the OP is but 650$ sounds about right. I’m in Orlando and the dealer said it takes about a week to get the keys, then they have to program it.

When I inquired for me 13’ w/ conv. feature crap it was $450 for the key itself and $175 for the programming.

If y’all are getting them cheaper and in Florida let a member know. Always nice to have extra keys for a rainy day

Wow! I'm going to start listening when you guys when you say your dealer is a whore. My key was $275 from the dealer. Here's the invoice for programming, $70!! I was there a half hour; ate two of those big, soft cookies and watched some rich guy's trophy wife get in and out of an R8 wearing a short skirt. Any dealer that makes this out to be a big deal is lying.

Buy a membership to AAA wait the 7 days and get towed for free. Get up to 4 tows per year and 100 miles. Price of triple AAA is less than the cost of the tow.

Key fobs are easy to find on eBay. Get the correct MHz key fob. Ask “audi 4 life” member on how to get correct fob to match the bcm 2 in trunk. Once you have that. Go to an Independent mechanic and he can program for $100. Buy both keys needed for around 125 eBay. Then $100 for AAA then 100 to program.

325 total with a AAA membership. That’s how I would proceed.

Only the dealer can program keys for an Audi.

OP what about ordering a key from another dealer then having your dealer program it? I bought my car in Nashville and iirc the second key was $250 + programming. Could call the dealer in Nashville and see if they will ship it to you or your dealer.

Your incorrect I have keys reprogrammed from 2 different independent shops. They need the Audi software which connects with Germany. One is in Pasadena. One is in sherman oaks, California

I was not aware Indy Shops could get the Audi Software and establish the encripted link to get info needed to program new keys, good to know and wonder what hoops they jump through to be able to do this.

It’s only money really. The software is insanely expensive and it’s super rare that an Indy shop would buy it because they don’t get enough business from it to make it worthwhile.

I think California is probably one of the very few places that it makes sense.

I've learned that unused keys become un-progammed if not used.

I never used my 2nd key and it stopped being associated with the car after a while. I went to the dealer and they wanted to charge me to re-program it to my car. WTF.

Ditto. If you change the battery or otherwise loose power in the car, you have to reprogram the buttons to the car. I've had that many times. That might take 10 seconds and you can do it yourself. But as far as the immobilizer system knowing which keys should start the car, no way. My second key rarely gets used. But there's never a problem with the immobilizer.
