    RNS-E 2nd gen

So I have an opportunity to buy an RNS E for pretty cheap. I believe its a 2nd gen as its out of a 2012 Audi TT and has silver knobs. My question is whats involved in installing this in my 2008 RS4? Is it just plug and play or will I need a different wiring harness?

Also, other than the clearer screen what are the benefits? I believe this unit would have streaming Bluetooth capabilities which in all honesty is mainly why I want it. I don't care about the nav or upgraded SD card stuff.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone that has done this upgrade!

    Thanks in advance!

I think it is better resolution, traffic updates and maybe the BT?

    the MK2 RNS-E has

    - higher resolution, LED-backlit screen
    - Faster CPU
    - Traffic reports
    - AMI compatibility
    - reads higher capacity SD cards (SDXC, etc)

Like the MK1, there is no built-in Bluetooth capability (phone or media) - it must be added via an external OEM module (phone only) or 3rd party solution (either media or phone+media). If you're picking up a unit from a car other than a B6/B7, you'll need to swap a B6/B7 faceplate on (and ideally move the updated buttons/knobs over) and correctly code the unit with VCDS (or equivalent). There's no wiring difference from the MK1 unit so everything is plug/play there

I'm running a MK2 unit in my RS with OEM BT for phone and a 3rd party adapter for streaming (replaces the CD changer)

The RNSE 2 allows connection to the AMI. The AMI allows seamless connectivity to the iPhone.

It will also allow integration of a reverse camera.

    Derek,

I had this done on the RS4. It's simply a plug and play, but seeing that it's off the TT, you're going to have to do a faceplate swap and I'm not sure about the level of difficulty to do it (I believe the swap info is online from a Lambo tech).
Majority of the "benefits" have already been mentioned, I honestly found the TMC was behind on the reports, 660News likely would have given you the updates by then.
My bluetooth ended up being the same as Mk1 RNS-E (no streaming).

In the end, it just looked really nice. (although I didn't mind having 2x32gb SD for music.)

Currently running AUX + BT streamer off Amazon for the S4 (works like a charm).

the MK1 does as well, and actually only some MK2 units are capable of RVC since the RVSL output is missing on some of the units, so you need to check the pinout on top to make sure C2 isn't NC

    RNS-E 2nd gen

Swapping the faceplate is pretty straightforward, just be careful with the two cables, one that hooks up directly to the monitor and the other hooks up by the buttons on the right hand side.

Make sure you remove the ribbon cable from the faceplate side, not from inside the actual unit because it’s a pain to reassemble if you do it that way

Thanks for the info man. Forgot about the faceplate swap. Do you have a link to the unit you got off amazon for your S4?

haven't had time to look into it. My MK2 unit doesn't have RVSL on C2, so might not be possible. Need to check the pinout on yours (and your MK2 cover is on your MK1 unit remember)
