Does the paddle shifter installation (full replacement, not extenders) require taking off the wheel? For VW all you need to do is remove a pin with a needle nose pliers and remove the OEM paddles. The new ones fit in the same space and you place the pin back in - 10 min job.

In case anyone wanted to see what the satin silver Leyo extensions look like. Really dig the raised ridge in the back - adds a nice tactile dimension.

P5stunna- Quick question... How close is the red set to the RS Design Selection air vent trims' red tone IRL? I am waffling on black vs. red, since I haven't seeing them installed in-person (vs pictures) of how close the black or the red match the trim elements. The silver, at least from pictures, does not appear to be polished enough to be a close match to the silver trim on the rs3 paddles, while the black looks pretty close (at least in sheen) to the piano black gloss of the OEM paddle it would be sitting against. Given you have the red, did/if you held them next to the vent rings, how close is the color? If the shade is a bit different IRL, I guess I would get black for my cabin OCD. Thanks

The silver looks great! I love it so much more than stock! Here's mine in black - a bit more stealth.

Black looks a lot better with A3/S3 black paddles imo.

Silver accents the larger silver OE RS paddles. Definitely would go silver.

Just saw a video of a guy with the Leyo paddles in an RS5 and they were hitting the lights/turnsignal stalk when the wheel was turned and the stalk was pulled towards the driver (like activating brights). Is this replicable/an issue in the RS3? Thanks in advance.

No, you will just need to remove the airbag as the paddles are secured in place by a single screw from the inside

Is there a good DIY for removing the airbag?

From your post I assume it can be done with the wheel still mounted to the column?

I'd like some nicer paddles on my S3 and debating full replacements vs. Leyo extensions.. the deciding factor being how difficult/PITA it would be to install replacements haha.

Personally, I wouldn't want to mess with it. It's easily reversible with those Leyo extensions if you decides against it later on.

There was a post up a ways about Leyo extensions interfering with the cruise/headlight stalk when they were pulled forward... Has anyone seen that or is that a non-issue?

See post #47 - I don't have any issues with mine as do many others on this thread. There are plenty of clearance for the stalks. That post about Leyo extensions interfering with the cruise/headlight stalk when they were pulled forward was referencing an RS5, How was that relevant to the S3/RS3?

Hmm was just following up to see if that was the case for anyone... If it was relevant on one of their products there's a good chance it carried over to this platform as well, but thanks for your input.

I haven't personally done it, but saw a DIY somewhere and it looks pretty striaght forward. I personally would not mess with the air bag. It sucks because I think with the paddles in the RS3 the stick on options just don't look great. Its usually very obvious that they are stick on and not full replacements which makes them look a bit cheap IMO.

Yeah I just watched the DIY. It does look pretty straight forward but I also have some hesitation towards messing with an airbag.

Also, anyone who has done any trim removal on an Audi knows how much of a PITA it can be to remove trim clips and how easily they can be damaged. Every DIY I've watched always makes trim removal look 10x easier than it actually is lol.

I think given that the S3 has pretty small factory paddles, the extensions might blend in pretty well, so I might go that route.

Does anyone have experience with the Axmotiv extensions?

Looks like those and the Leyo design both use a clamp on style... Wondering how they compare.

I use the axmotive one. I chose them mainly because of the clap style. I didn’t was to stick anything to my car. The paddles look nice and work well of the most part. The very top 1cm isn’t stiff enough to allow gear shifting though. But that’s and issue wit all paddles. I believe it’s a limitation of the Audi shifting mechanism itself and not the extensions.

Thanks for the info... That's what I was reading about the extensions not functioning at the very ends..

Honestly that's kinda dumb, why can't a company just make a revision that's shorter and works along the whole length. I think most people agree the extensions seem overly long - I'd just like another 1.5-2" of extension from my factory paddle, not 3-4" lol.

2 reasons why I chose Leyo over the Axmotive:
    1. I wanted more lateral extension toward the wheel so I don't have to reach for it as much, which the Leyo provided, but not Axmotive nor do many others.
    2. Axmotive looks a bit more "Rice", but this is a personal opinion.

I actually dislike that the Leyo ones have the text written on them and thing the Axmotiv blend a little better, but like you said - personal preference.

Yeah - I'm not too crazy with text either, but Leyo was the only one that I could find that also extends it wider, which made it an easier reach for me while everything else mainly extends longer, which isn't that useful to me. I don't have super long fingers, so making a shorter reach was more important to me.

Seems like someone should come out and make a nicer design lol, wonder if Leyo/Axmotiv have their mounting designs patented lol.

We've had very good service from this vendor on our various model vehicles, including our 2019 Audi RS 3 as shown below, as well as our other vehicles such as our 2015 Golf R and a number of other vehicles over the years.

This product is from https://www.dsg-paddles.com/collecti...addle-shifters. They make many different paddle styles for a great many different vehicles.

I agree. I dont understand why there isn’t a company that makes a billet metal paddle that is just a little bigger than the factory paddle, fits in the stock location, but feels better. Something like a porsche pdk style /sized paddle. I would imagine there would be a market with how many people complain about the 2010-2020 paddles. I know im in the minority but the stock ones dont bother me THAT much but metal would be nice.

    Yeah I totally agree.

Doesn't even seem to be many aluminum replacement paddles, mostly CF from what I can see. I think CF wouldn't sit right inside a S3 cockpit unless you had some other carbon in there.

I recently bought them, just have to wait until next spring to install because I don’t want to break anything during the install due to the cold.
I had been in touch with Dion prior to ordering them, and he always responded right away. I would wholeheartedly recommend buying from him!

Just got the leyo extensions to try them out and I’m not a huge fan. They feel harder to use than the stock paddles because it requires reaching further with your fingers to operate the paddles. They do look pretty good for not being full replacements though. Going to test them for a few days and see if I keep them or not

What do you mean you have to reach further to operate them? They extend the paddles more towards the circumference of the wheel, which means less reach. I like them a lot because they made the paddles easier to reach, IMHO.

I mean they are further back from the wheel slightly. Its not terrible, but if you have shorter fingers they are a bit more awkward to operate than the OEM paddles on their own so in the end it doesn't feel any better than OEM paddles. May just take some getting used to since they are pretty large extensions. I had some stick on ones on my SQ5 that were the perfect size, but hate the idea of sticking something on to the paddles like that just sounds wrong (even though they feel perfectly fine and I never had any issues).

My 2012 big turbo Mitsubishi Ralliart that I paid 13k for came stock with better paddles than my 52k Rs3. The Mitsubishi is aluminum and long. Also attached to the column rather than the wheel. I like that better too. Not complaining too much, just a funny observation.

Those look pretty nice. I am guessing they go on with adhesive?

I think all the options from DSG paddles go on with adhesive.

For some reason it seems tacky (no pun intended haha) but I am wondering if they feel mushy or rigidly attached with that method.
