All Season Tires - Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06s vs. BFGoodrich G-Force Comp 2

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Guys,

Looking for some new tires to replace my current set. Anyway it's time for new set of tires and I'm looking for an all season tire. The contenders on my short-list are:
Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06s vs. BFGoodrich G-Force Comp 2 A/S

In addition, I live in TX, so I don't really have any heavy winter snow driving to worry about. But we do have a lot of ice / black ice during the winter months (Dallas area). So a lot of freezing temps (20-30 degree temps), ice, and rain to deal with during the winter months.

Any feedback from you guys who have either tire would be great. Thanks!

I wouldn't get all-seasons if you're gonna be driving on any type of ice or rain. They're generally really fuel inefficient, worse grip & safety than summer tires during summer and worse than winter tires during winter. I don't even feel safe driving with really good studded tires, but we do get a lot of snow and ice in my area to be fair. This winter I had an accident with $200 studded Hakka tires driving less than 15 mph.

Do you have any snow at all in TX or just ice?

To add some color, I ran continental extremecontact dws 06 and was overall pretty happy with them. I wanted All-Seasons more because I wanted to get more than 20K out of my tires, and that's all I was getting with the summer tires I ran with before. With the continental extremecontact dws 06 I got around ~40K miles, and have been pretty happy with the wear. Yes, they are a bit on the soft side, but a sacrifice I'm willing to accept for more 'bang for my buck' for a good tire.

TireRack reviews for both tires are very good. I think it's a toss-up between both "High Performance All-Season Tires."

    Thanks,

Just ice, I've ran All season's before....so I'm fine with any sacrifice in performance. Worst case scenario, we have 1 day of snow....so it's not really a major contention point.

I have DWS06 tires on mine. I've had them for a bit over a year and I'm very happy. They are quite comfortable for my standards (I generally enjoy sporty tires) and have more grip than I personally use. I felt bad about not ordering DW instead as I have great winters also but after testing them out, I don't feel like I'm missing anything. The DWS has twice the treadwear rating so in theory, I should have them about twice as long.

I have run DW tires on my gti and I had the original g-force sport (same tread slightly different compound) on a previous car.

If you look at the g-force pattern, it doesn't look like it pushes the water out as well but I never had any issues. It was a fun tire. I would definitely recommend the Contis though. If it's on a daily driver, they are great value and I don't think you'll be disappointed. They are either made in the USA or Germany depending if that matters to you.

If you have any specific questions on my experience with them, please ask.

    Edit :
I misread the a/s on your choice of G-Force tires.
The ones I had were not all season! Very different tread

+1 for DWS06s. I was a die hard summer/winter tire guy, but these dws06s combined with quattro got me through a cold winter here in VA just fine. They handle great, they feel great, and they wear nicely. They worked so well that I decided to sell my winter wheels.

I gave up on BF Goodrich in the 90s.

No tire is really gonna handle great on ice. Out of the 2 you mentioned, I’d pick the Conti’s based on raving reviews on the web.

I’m running my second set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3’s. I run them all year and I live in New Hampshire. Someone in Texas should have zero problems running them. I highly recommend them.

DWS06 are just crazy tires , they stick, don't make noise and treadwear of 560 !

I have this on my wife's X3 m pack n55, my bro's Cayenne and my bro's Sentra SER Spec V.

Very very impressive tire for a ''4 season''.

On my B7, I'm on DW (now extreme contact sport).

I've got those goodyears and have been very happy with them thus far. Previously I had the Contis on my B5 and they were great tires, but they wore really fast.

The old compund DWSs did wear fast. I've used both gens of the DW and DWS. Wear is MUCH improved now.

Good to know! I did like them except for that issue. I might give them a more serious look next go-around.

Another +1 for the dws06’s. I’ve had my car for over 6 years and went thru two sets of em.
Decided to change it up a little and went with Bridgestone Potenza’s re980’s.m, hope I’m happy with them fast or I’ll be here on the forums looking to trade for dws’s lol.
Being Texas doesn’t see much snow you should go with some summer tires that grip well in wet weather.

Another +1 dws06, did fine in any snow over two seasons, I don't race around but any time I've tried they don't let go easily. Only time it felt shaky was recently in basically hurricane level rain on the highway but this is also the lightest car I've driven in almost 4 years, as crazy as that sounds. 15k miles later they still look completely fine, probably get the same again, barely over $500/set

They suck on high speed. I was going 100mph steady from orlando to miami on my last b7 not this one and they wore in a 4 hour trip i couldn't belive my eyes.
