How difficult/expensive would this be? I am just curious not serious about it atm.....

    Would be really cool though

Yeah mean, like a manual conversion? From auto to manual?

Yeah I remember reading somewhere that the 3.0t is just a 3.2 with supercharger so isn't there a manual 3.2 tranny that could just bolt right on? It wouldn't need much electrical work would it going to manual right?

I feel like the transmission is the biggest downside of this car.

Mechanically is easy. Transmission, driveshaft, rear diff (auto and manual are different ratios) and then shifter linkages. I'd buy a whole pedal assembly rather than individual brake and clutch pedals, it's cheaper that way. You'd want a manual engine harness, because that includes the transmission harness with it. I'm sure you could splice the auto one around, but honestly it's not worth the effort at that point to me rather than just swapping it. Wires will need run for reverse lights, plus fuses I think. The main thing is the ECU, which can't just be easily recoded from auto to manual, it will stop communicating with the transmission entirely. Perhaps with that engines version it will, I think it might if you disable the module before undergoing everything but honestly I'm not sure. The ECU is the most annoying part of it, otherwise everything else is fairly straightforward.

Sounds a bit too tough to justify it - sounding like it would cost as much as the delta between selling this car and buying b8 s4 manual

It's really not ideal, no. For ease of the deal, I'd sell and buy. Maybe trade up on some options while you're at it, who knows. Good luck

I'll just keep the tiptronic - kind of fits the luxury shift feel of this car I guess

    but, why?

Its a 2 tonnes heavy sedan, and no transmission is gonna make it handle or go better.

and even with tiptronic, manual shifting works quite good, upshifts are great, downshift is bit slower but managable. I would recomend getting steering wheel with paddle shifters which makes driving way more fun.

True, but the sloppy soft torque converter kills it for me often. It’s trying to make the car smooth and shit, how boring haha.

Ive driven manual my whole life, but I dont see the point in a manual in a heavy ass sedan that weighs like a news stand, and handles like a sumo wrestler doing sprints.

So question, does anyone know where, or what will work for this swap? Can't find a damn thing State side. Have found a complete trans, with linkage, petals and so on in Europe, but the language barrier and risk of not having everything come over is kind of outweighing the benefits. Any info would be great, thanks. Or wondering if a DSG trans would work 🤔

While I love the concept think about the following and while it's not always right wiki can be your friend:

    1) An S4 manual or even dsg likely won't fit without some work to make the attachment points and tunnel etc match up since they are 2 different size platforms/bodies. Look at the guy who's putting the V10 from an S6 into his c6.5 - @ quattrobarn in the midwest - it's the same platform and two automatic transmissions but the mounting points and size are making them having to make some cuts etc. to try and get it to fit. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTJ...t=dd&flow=grid

    2) from what I've seen (and i could be wrong) the only manuals were for diesels or maybe the 2 liter fwd in the non -North American markets - those are going to be different gear ratios etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A6#C6_facelift - scroll towards the bottom of the page.

If you're after a 3.0T 6-speed avant, the easier swap is likely stuffing a 3.0t into an A4 avant. If it's a sedan, just get an S4.

I agree a 6 speed would be fun, and in reality the A6 is only a couple hundred lbs heavier than an S4, but I just don't see the juice being worth the squeeze with the complications mentioned above.

If you want something bigger and 6 speed, there's a C5 RS6 6 speed swapped for sale in CO for $12k...

Thanks for all the input everyone, sounds like there isn't much out there for a reason 😂
Reason for asking was 2 parts, yes it would be a whole lot of fun. But mainly for performance, stage 2+ so the stock trans is robbing a good amount of power, and isn't going to hold up the best.
