Help determining v band clamp size ..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I got a 034 Motorsport turbo back exhaust , and I don’t know size v band clamps to get . The down pipes to mid pipe , pipe diameter is 3 inch and then the cat back is 3.5 inch ,

My question is do I get 3 inch v band clamps for the 3 inch pipe diameter or do I go half inch bigger ?

    I can’t remember how they measure .

034 downpipes are 3" vbands clamps.

Forgot to ask, do you need just the clamps or are you looking for flanges as well? If you need flanges to match the mids to the downpipes check out ebay. I got mine on there for around $12 iirc. They were advertised to fit LS1 headers and they work perfectly with my 034 downpipes.

If the 3" to 3.5" section needs flanges also just use 3" there as well. Have an exhaust shop swage you a short piece of tubing and then weld that in between the cat back flange and 3.5" tube.

I just need clamps , I picked the the down pipes mid ,and the exhaust up from somebody abd didbt come with clamps .

So I wasn’t sure what size clamps I needed , I don’t know how they measure the clamps to flanges from inner diameter or the outter.

So your saying use 3 inch v band clamps for the down pipes(3in pipe diameter) to my mid pipes , and use the 3.5 inch clamp for(3.5 in pipe size) the rear exhaust? Same size clamps for the same as the exhaust tubing,

For some reason I thought you went half inch bigger

Naw, I was just suggesting how to put it together if you needed flanges as well. You match the clamp size to the flange size, ie 3" vbands fits a 3" pipe and uses 3" clamps. I can't say for sure what size clamps for the mids-rear exhaust but I am certain the downpipes are 3" (assuming they haven't been altered). Just compare the mid-rear exhaust flanges to the downpipe side and go from there but I'd bet they are 3" as well. Any chance you have pics?

A place between here and there

You need to first make sure the flanges are the same size. Meaning, the outer lips of the flanges are the same size and then order according to the outer lip size (ads many times have specs for the clamps for reasons like this). This is how people make different sized piping mate together with v band clamps. For example, you can have a smaller pipe with larger lips on the v band flange and a larger pipe with smaller lips on the v band flange.

I have a 1.8t, and did the same thing to my setup. Off the t31 housing I have a 4 bolt to 3" v band adapter (welded to turbine housing). The adapter has larger lips on it than the downpipe has. This way, the outer lip edges match. Then you order the clamp size according to this. Can't recall if I run a 3" or 3.25" clamp, but order according to specs. So first make sure the outer edges of the v bands line up before going any further. Because if not, a new v band will need to be welded on. And if so, order the v band flange with specs to match the other. Then order the clamp with specs to match.

Not related to size but I suggest vibrant clamps. They have replaceable bolt kits so you never have to replace entire assembly if you strip them.
