    Paddle shifter extension review

    I LOVE these!

I have rather large hands and yet I still have to stretch to reach the stock paddles on my RS5, I went looking for a solution and found these. Leyo Motorsports. They make paddles in various colors for probably all VW and Audi with factory paddles. What I like about them is the design. Firstly some of the competition only extends the paddle up and down not out towards your fingers, second some of the competition uses a bunch of set screws or a clam-shell design. These Leyo units have a machined in tab at the top and at the bottom there is a wide round movable tab that you tighten with a set screw, the result is no screws contact the stock paddle and no scratches and I can assure you all they are mounted on there nice and firm. Easiest mod I have ever done, maybe 30 seconds a side and makes shifting nicer and makes your car look and feel more like a supercar!

Sorry, but I think these look hideous and cheap.

Well everyone has an opinion, they are precision machined from aluminum and having dealt with many machined parts over the years the attention to detail on these is perfect. The looks aren't for everyone but for my being able to reach the paddles is more important. They are available in black and silver too for a more subtle look.

I don't mind them, and definitely do have problems reaching especially on turns.

I have the black ones in my S5 and they are great! Red might not be for everyone but the pop of color is nice in an otherwise subdued interior. The OEM Audi paddles are pathetic and Audi should be ashamed for even putting them in an otherwise great interior.

These ones from Leyo are the nicest on the market by far. The fit and finish is excellent and you can really tell it's a quality product. Makes you want to actually use the paddles.

The Audi's in general (especially on their RS cars) need to have better paddle shifters period. The tactile feeling when shifting leaves something to be desired.

Audi's paddles are small and don't give much driver satisfaction when banging through the gears under heavy acceleration. The Alfa Romeo has the best paddle shifts I've seen, as they're metal and you need to give it a bit of pressure to get it to shift and when you do, you get a satisfying 'click'. BMW and Lexus have far better paddle shifters with better feedback.

Regarding the shifter extensions I don't mind the look (looks being subjective), but they don't do much by way of changing the feeling of the paddles for shifting and if you press the extension near the top or bottom it feels a bit flimsy.

Those look very similar to mine and are a much needed upgrade to the factory paddles. I would be curious to see how they are attached as mine has 4 small set screws to secure them to the paddles. Didn't bother me though, because they will stay on for the life of the car.

The red definitely gives a nice pop to the interior, but don't really like the PD engraved on the ones pictured above.

I have had people pull up next to me at stop lights and ask what they were, although it took my wife a full 6 months to ask "when did you do that?"

That is odd since mine feel the same anywhere on the extension. Rock solid. I do LOVE Alfa's though!

I will take one off this weekend and take pictures of the attachment. You can also see it on Leyo's website if you want to save me the trouble :)

I had carbon fibre solid 1 piece paddle made to fix this problem. Using the OEM paddle base so the feel is OEM, and unlike those stick on version I can engage the gear shift from any position. if anyone would like a set I can help source.

Those are pretty slick. I like the Carbon fiber as they truly match the rest of the car. But my goal was to extend the paddles outward so I could reach them and yours look like they are in the stock location. But since custom I suppose they could be made however you want.

I have a set of ECS anodized aluminum that fit the flat bottom paddles pre face lift 2013 and newer. These clamp on with plates and screws. Never installed as I need the curved bottom for my 2011 S5 Cab.

I have the black ones, shifting is way better now. For me, the extra width they provide is even more helpful than the length.
