    2008 A4 S line build

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello all, picked up a 2008 a4 s line as the title states last weekend. My other car (2014 Focus ST big turbo) decided to be a turd, typical ford, so I picked this up as a commuter for work. Well, old habits die hard and I was able to make it almost a whole week without buying any mods!

Picked up some motor, snub, and center diff mounts today from ECS and a catted downpipe from JHM. Also picked up some maintenance items, oil change bits, new plugs and coils, new fuel filter, a new belt. It’s been about a year since I sold my b6 S4 so feels good to get back into another Audi.

Not super familiar with this motor and this is my first automatic car I’ve owned. Any advice or things to check out going forward is always greatly appreciated and hope to get to know some of you guys/gals as I go!

    Thanks for stopping by!

Nice, looks like it's got the titanium package. 2.0T you should search for the cam follower thread. If you just picked it up recently then definitely you might want to get it changed out. You also want to check which version DV is on the car and change it out if it's the old one that's prone to tearing. I'm very jealous lol a black car and the titanium package

Car looks clean, congrats. It may be the angle of the photo, but the hood/bumper gap looks a little bit off, both gap size and comparing side-to-side gap. 2008 True S-line and Ti Package is a good find.

I’ll definitely have to check it out. My knowledge of the VAG 2.0t’s has quickly dissipated since my Mkvi gti. I’ll definitely look into those threads though as I’ve been making a list of items I want to check/replace since it’s new to me!

I hadn’t noticed until you said something lol. I’ll have to look at it after work. It definitely looks solid and is a sharp car. 98k miles when I picked it up which isn’t too bad for a 10 year old car.

Yeah that is off for the Ti package. If it’s got the black headliner and interior trim that’ll be definitive

Can you link that downpipe? Mine is a fwd automatic too and i’m having trouble finding an aftermarket downpipe or testpipe for it.

Mines Quattro but if you go to ecstuning.com you can put in your car and it will ask if it’s fwd or awd and show you everything that fits fwd. I’ve seen a few that fit the fwd cars, I’ll try to find them.

I had overlooked the fact the grill surround was chrome and not black. Did CarFax show an accident in the vehicle history? I don't know why someone would replace the Ti grill with a standard S-line.

Edit: also surprised to see halogen headlights. Did it come with the factory build sheet?

It didn’t come with a build sheet. Some guy with a thick Russian accent was selling the car it was actually his daughters car. He didn’t really know much about it other than he’s owned it for the last 6 years.

    Hey JohnBoy -

Congrats on the new toy! Love the Black Ti S-line combo!! I'm a bit up the road from you but if you are ever near Spartanburg reach out. I have VAG-COM (real, not ebay knockoff) and JHM cable if you go with their tuning.

Not all Fords are turds; I've got a 99 F250 that's rock solid. 210,xxx miles + and still going strong.

I need to update my bio haha I moved to Arizona in February so I’m on the other side of the country now! Appreciate the offer though, I’m going to order another vag com cable here soon. Had one for my Mkvi gti forever ago and should’ve kept it!

The ST isn’t a turd haha I just get disgruntled with it sometimes. Bought it new and has been big turbo since about 10k miles and has never given me any issues. I’m pretty sure I just need to tighten some bolts on my GTX2971r and it will fix my problems.

I lived in Arizona for a year...never again. Dry heat... my left nut!! When you can burn the soles of your feet @ 9am just walking to get your mail... that's just crazy hot. SC is more humid than my last home in Colorado, but where I'm at has nice breezes, an awesome porch, lots of shade, and a pool. You enjoy that "Dry Heat" ya whackjob. Just keep the pictures coming.

Hahaha, I actually enjoy 115 and 0% humidity way better than Columbia’s 105 and 90%. To each their own right. I like it out here so far.

Yeah, Columbia is wicked. My brother is in Simpsonville (SW of Greenville) and warned me that Columbia was "hotter than the Devil's ballsack".... sounds like you'd agree. Something about that area seems to focus & hold the heat. Good if you're a scorpion or cook bacon on your trunk, but that's about it.

There were days last summer I literally couldn’t open my door from the house and walk 3 feet to my car in the garage without my back pouring sweat at 6am. That place sucks!

Found out the hard way today when something says you need a special tool, you probably actually need it. Spilled oil everywhere removing the oil filter today. Felt like a total noob, I’ll be ordering said tool to drain that next time around. Got under the car for the first time and noticed the snub mount is completely shot and the motor mounts look to be leaking fluid. Have 034 mounts on their way so thats in the to do list. Replacing all the following next weekend:

    Snub mount
    Motor mounts
    Plugs and coil packs
    Rear diff mounts
    New high flow catted downpipe
    Cam follower

After that I’ll be hunting down a knock in the suspension somewhere. Also bought a timing belt and water pump kit from another member here. So that’s going to happen here whenever it’s not hotter than the hinges of hell at 7am.

I’m itching to throw that HFC pipe on just can’t decide if I should do my emissions for two years first. It should be fine with the cat and the j tube it shouldn’t through any codes but you never know. I think I’m going to do the full JHM exhaust. I’m going to get the y-pipe next and then see how I like the sound before I buy a catback.

I’m holding off on the tune until I get all the maintenance work done that I want done just to have piece of mind. After that I’ll probably upgrade the high pressure fuel pump, put a front mount intercooler on, and go stage 2+.

A word of caution, I believe a stage 2 and higher tune works best with the HFC.
If you are running stock, there's a chance of CELs if you install the HFC . I don't think it's harmful but may throw codes.

I wouldn’t get it tuned before I installed the HFC, HPFP, and new intercooler.

Timing belt kit arrived today. The parts are stacking up, I need a three day weekend to break into this thing and get her all tuned up!

Update: right after posting this a big brown truck rang my doorbell and drove away! They left some 034 motorsports motor mounts and a snub mount though so I’ll let it slide this time!

How about a complete big brake kit? If your going to be adding some power you’ll want to be able to slow this thing down too!

You can often defeat the CEL caused by an HFC by using an O2 spacer.

The HFC pipe has a j tune already welded in so it’s shouldn’t throw one. I just would hate to put it on and then fail an emissions tests and have to come home, put the stock pipe back in, go get tested, and then put the high flow pipe back on.
