    Audi Tire and Wheel Protection

    Hi,

How many of you have purchased this and have made good use of it? I am leaning towards getting it as my SA said I can back date the purchase as long as I do it within a month of buying the car. It says it covers after market wheels/tires as long as they meet specifications. How is this determined? Any insight would be appreciated. I don't want to get into a situation where i get my winter setup of 18" wheels and blow a tire or rim and they say sorry it's not covered because manufacture specs say they are 19" only or have to be the same size as stock wheels/tires etc.

I have the wheel and tire protection and have had a tire replaced following a bubble from a pothole and a rim fixed from curb rash - that's 3 months into driving it. My last car had 6 tires ruined from potholes in 2 years and 3 of 4 rims at some sort of cosmetic issue. Chicago is rough on tired and rims as potholes are everywhere.
Can't speak to what happens with aftermarket tires and rims though.

I’ve had it on 3 vehicles now and all vehicles that were kept under 4 years total, almost a year in with the RS3. Its paid for itself 3 times over. Bc of the road hazards with my my S4 and S3 it kinda paid for and made me upgrade to the 2k package for dent/windshield and insurance deductible reimbursement. 2 wheels refinished, 1 tire replaced, and insurance deductible reimbursed (safety precaution)

I can't remember the exact price but I think I was quoted some crazy number like 2700 for the wheel and tire warranty. I've had one tire replaced so far and it cost about 300 (at the dealer). I'm guessing the tires will only last about 3 years and when I replace them, I'll probably get P4S tires from Costco which will include road hazard for free. That means that I would need to have 9 tires replaced in 3 years just to break even. That of course assumes no wheel damage.

I had bad luck on my TTS. I had the insurance fortunately. In one year I replaced 5 tires for nails / screws with one having a side wall bubble. Additionally, they replaced one rim after they, the dealer, backed it into a lift and gouged it, then the wheel repair dude gouged the inside of the rim repairing it. (I did not see that one until I was replacing a sway bar)

I bought it on this car and it was 1900 for four years. pretty expensive, yes, but after the last one I couldn't risk it LOL

The other thing is it is refundable. Use it for a bit and as long as there is not a claim get your money, or most of it back if things are going well.

With regard to the other question, when I read the fine print other wheels and tires were fine and they did replace one of my conti DWS06 tires. The rim will only be replaced if it doesn't hold air FWIW.

Damn I guess I got a good deal then $2000 covers cosmetic wheel refurbishing or replacement, even on aftermarket wheel. Tires are prorated by use.

I wanted to buy it but like you I was quoted 2700 for it. Wheels would be over 1k each so you get your money out of these if you break a wheel but the math doesn't work at the numbers we were quoted.

Thanks for the info. Any more insight on aftermarket wheels? Also - someone said it can be refunded after the 4 years is almost up if there is never a claim?

If I remember right, I was told that it followed some type of strange pro-rated schedule like 70-30-20-10 with any claims subtracted from the refund amount. I've had tire and wheel warranties on previous cars, but the Audi one made absolutely no sense to me financially. Even on a GT-R where Nissan dealerships are not allowed to patch the tires, I think the price was like 800.

the price for 4 years is like 1400 and 1600 i think for cosmetic coverage with it (scrapes or dents that can be repaired). I'm willing to pay it my biggest concern is if they'll cover aftermarket wheels/tires and how strict they are on specifications of that.

I doubt they would cover aftermarket... I would assume only OEM product would be covered. I could be wrong..

According to the brochure, it seems pretty explicit that they cover OEM tires and wheels only.

I wonder how you are getting a deal so much better than what I was offered. At the time, I thought my finance person was being pretty straight with me.

Read it again.... it says it covers OEM and aftermarket tires and wheels. Finance people are never straight. They will mark it up and try and make more $$

Nonetheless, OP check with the dealer and get them to put it in writting.

I did mean to say that aftermarket wheels and tires were not covered, but I went back and re-read the brochure and there is conflicting information.

"Covers replacement of OEM or aftermarket tires and wheels during your agreement term, if they meet the manufacturer’s size specifications"

"Tires and wheels will be replaced using original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or OEM-approved parts"

It's ambiguous... i would get something in writting or get them to clarify things

Read it the legal way and it says "Covers replacement of OEM or aftermarket tires. (period) and wheels"
I'm going to say that literally means tires or correct size regardless of OEM or not standard equipment tires (ie aftermarket) and only OEM wheel.

It also sounds to me like they will only replace both tires and wheels with OEM. So they may agree to replace your aftermarket tire (if it is the same size) but only with an OEM tire.

The email I just sent the finance manager trying to sell me this setup:

    Hi Pam,

I want to purchase the tire and wheel protection but need to get something in writing that i'll still be covered with aftermarket. It says "OEM or aftermarket as long as they meet specifications"... how strict is this? In the door it reads only 2 tire sizes possible.... which are the current summer sizes of front 255,30 R19 and rear 235,35 R19. These sizes are not good for winter though, which is what i'm most concerned about. With a winter setup the best way to go would probably be 18" rims with 235 40 rubber. There are other sizes like this that can easily fit the RS3 and In winter you need higher profile tires with smaller wheels(18") to compensate for the bad roads. I'm not going to buy this coverage and come winter have an issue and be told i'm not covered because it doesn't meet manufacturer specs. I'm obviously not going to put wheels/tires on that don't fit and they will be approved by the wheel manufacturer that they fit the RS3. If a wheel/tire is damaged I want to be covered. Perhaps I need to talk to someone in the parts department? I just need more clarity on this before I move forward.

Again - I want to purchase this I just want to be sure it's the right decision and that i'll be covered. Thanks again for your time and effort Pam! :) Look forward to hearing back.
