    Vinyl Wrap

Hello all! I was thinking of having my car getting wrapped, I've never done this before and don't have too much knowledge on wraps. I contacted place near me and they quoted my car (B8.5 S4) to come out around $2,750 for 3m and $3,000 for Avery. Please give me you input on whether or not this is the normal price for this or if its completely different than what it should be. Thanks!

Jeez, at that dollar amount, why not just get it painted and do it right?

I've heard those prices for sedans, so not out of the ball park by anymeans, but certainly expensive as it stands.

Even a "pro" plasti dip closed up to $750 when I checked into it.

So, yeah seems around right from my neck of the woods, but curious as to why you want to wrap it? Not hating, used to think of it myself, liked the Halo Green Look myself

    Vinyl Wrap

I don’t know any place that will color change a car for close to $3,000 including door jams and engine bay (which is necessary to do it right).

Last full (same color) no jam paint job I got on my b6 S4 was $3500 including body work and me knowing the shop owner.

I hate my black car and would love a pearl white or blue, but color change paint jobs are expensive.

Edit: regarding wrap prices that’s about the average price I’d say.

I have owned my car for about 3 years now and I'm just about to graduate high school so I was thinking of using a quarter or so of my graduation money plus some of my savings to do it. I love the moonlight blue but I recently saw some wrapped b8.5s and its really catching my eye. I was thinking of doing some sort of Matte grey with some red accents about to match my calipers. However if it is going to cost 3k I dont think I will do it.

Quote is good, but be sure the shop has a good reputation and don't just go to whoever has the lowest price. If you get tired of it and want to remove it, you dont want the paint underneath to be damaged. I had my 350Z wrapped and enjoyed it, but there is just something special about well maintained paint that can't be duplicated.

So your s4 was your first car and you don't like the color anymore? Anyone else think it is irresponsible to give a 16 yr old an S4 as their first car? I know there must be quite a few parents that can afford to buy one for their child. Not sure there are many 16 yr olds that are experienced and responsible enough to handle the performance of the S4 as their first car. Just saying

Ive worked very hard for this car with a job at 12 and constantly always saving my money. I wanted a b6 S4 for my first but my parents helped me with the 5,000 I needed to have my dream car as a little kid for my first car. I dont think it was irresponsible and only reason I would like to wrap it is because my whole life is about to change with a full time job and going to college so it would be nice for a change in my car without having to purchase a new one. I have been "driving" since I was 10 going around the track on my fathers lap steering and I am no where close to irresponsible to own this type of vehicle. I just had my car tuned to APR Stage 2 with a dp and AWE cooling system so I think I am more than enough able to handle this kind of performance ;) Im not any average teenager trying to speed and race everyone I see. I love cars and respect the laws/other people driving so thanks for assuming I am some kind of jackass little kid driver haha

No need to defend yourself here. Some people have different philosophies on what people should have for their first cars.

Yeah I see, just thought that was a stupid comment bc it had nothing to do with the thread I created and the assumption he had.

You will never convince me that a 16 yr old is experienced enough and mature enough to handle a car similar to an S4 . At 18, with a couple of years driving experience,OK. Most of us should be able to look back at ourselves at 16 and realize what we didn't know at that time. Plus 1-6 moths of driving with a permit hardly prepares anyone for what they will encounter on the road. The amount of power the S4 has can never be utilized safely or legally on the road. it is also difficult not to use it. Otherwise, you might as well just buy an A4. The OP MAY actually be responsible and able to handle an S4 or similar NOW. I can not believe that was true when he first got the S4 at 16. One good thing is the S4 is a really safe car when driven within the parameters of what is legally allowed on the road. BTW, I can also say I would not have been ready to drive an S4 when I was 16 back in the Pleistocene era either . I was also working and very responsible at that age. Just not experienced on the road or driving a car with 333 HP.

    Good point thank you
Grad money and savings? Keep your money. Use it for living expenses, not wasting it on a wrap. I’m sure your parents would appreciate that.

Having just gone through this with several price quotes, those prices are cheap. For those that think it's an easy DIY, think again. For those that think paint is even remotely close to the cost of a wrap, think again.

How long is the warranty the shop will honor? Most are 2-3 years. If you want added protection for very little additional cost, have them put a laminate over your main vinyl. You can go with gloss, matte, or satin and it's basically a double layer of protection. I think I paid $100 extra to have them put the laminate over my entire wrap and was completely worth it. Still "self healing" as well (within reason). The only problem is it makes the installers life miserable as the vinyl is now twice as thick and a bitch to work with...

They offer I believe it was 2-4 years. I might go for that double protection as well now that you mention it. I want this to last as long as possible

Professionals make difficult things look easy. Full color change for $2000? That is crazy cheap. Cost saving have to come from somewhere...quality of the material, quality of labor...

If it were easy, everyone would be doing it in their own garage, and this forum would be littered with DIY wrapping threads. I agree that it's not a complicated process per se (meaning it's brain surgery), but it's a very delicate, time consuming, and difficult process that requires skills, patience, and a lot of practice. Took me 6 hours to wrap the chrome on my door seals. I can't imagine how many days it would take me to do the whole car, not to mention, I'm sure it will look like 5hit.

$2300 to me is a good deal and I wish I could find something around me for this. In my opinion $2300 for it to last the rest of the lifetime of the car is worth it, especially since I currently don’t like my black car.
