    Cool 18 RS3 - 0-60 Test

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Did a few launches after hitting 600 miles.
This is the best that she could do.
    ESC was 'OFF' (not sport)
Left at about 3400 rpm and 4.2psi.
Looking at the video slowly, if I had left a half second earlier, it looks like it would have left on over 5.3psi.

    Spoiler - 3.84 0-60

Not sure how the car mag's were hitting 3.5/6's

Car mags usually have a 1 foot rollout before the clock starts. This reduces times by about .2-.3 so you're right in line with reality.

I’m sure that running on a track (with at least some amount of prep or rubber down) will yield better traction than the street.

Also, your car still might pick up a little more performance after a few more miles on the clock. 600 is still pretty green/tight.

With the waylens, is it capturing throttle and brake inputs? Looking for something for track use.

I have a bunch of 3.8’s. 3.82 was my last one in sport TC mode. So you are right in line.

Took it to local shop. They charged me an arm and a leg. I had heard it was about 2 hours on the ground, and about 30 min on a hoist. My shop said it was about 2-2.5 hrs on a hoist.

^^ so the part is like $600 plus two or two and a half hours of labor for the install that is closer to $1000. That is very step price.

Pretty sure the car mags all tested cars with ceramic brakes (less unsprung weight).

Main change from last year was a switch from APR tune to Unitronic. Stage 2 E85 tune.

VanCityAudi has a video showing power on the stage2 E85 unitronic tune.

Assuming you have weight removed to get in the 6's on stage 2 e85. Regardless that bitch is moving.

    18 RS3 - 0-60 Test

Sorry for the confusion. I forgot to include that I have switched over to Stage 3 between the last run.

My best Stage 2 60-130 was not on APR (8.05) but was on Unitronic (7.46).

When I was on Unitronic stg 1+, no TCU tune, I could get a 0 to 60 in the 3.4x range.

Since adding stg 2 TCU a couple weeks back, the best I have managed is 3.66. This was confirmed during a drag strip visit a couple weeks back during which I had slower 60 foot times than when I was bone stock. What is going on?

Summertime high DA and conditions?? How are your tires now compared to your no TCU tune runs? I have experienced .5 second difference in 1/4 mile times and up to 5 mph difference in trap speed between great and bad conditions.

I had APR for the first 5 months and have been on Unitronic for the past 5 months. In all fairness I never really got to run the apr files in good DA weather conditions.

I don't get how you could spend x amount of money on one tune, and then just forget what you spent and throw down money on another tune? Just baffling to me. Like I'd rather spend that 1k on something else on the car or myself etc. Idk, not hating on you, just puzzled with the circumstances.

No need to hate or be puzzled.. Did you see my video with the DSG bouncing off the rev limiter from 2-3? It was also bouncing from 4-5 but did not post the video.. I road track, autox and drag my RS3 often and the way the DGS was behaving was unacceptable to me. Not sure you are aware of this but both APR and Unitronic will provide you with a 20%+ discount if you go to them from one of their competitors so that is what I did. I have had four previous cars tuned by APR with much success so I trusted their products and went with them first but after spending 2 months testing APR tcu files and working with APR to unsuccessfully fix the TCU tune from bouncing off the rev limiter I decided to give Unitronic a try with the 20% discount and 30 day refund option and never looked back.

Even though I conducted a lot of research I don't always get it right the first time every time. I also originally purchased and installed the APR pendulum mount and dogbone insert but bent the mount and insert and experienced excessive wheel hop when launching so I removed the APR Mount and dogbone insert and replaced it with the ECE Poly Mount and now it's better. I've been buying, tuning and racing cars for the past 40 years and at this point in my life I don't mind spending some extra money to make things work right.. So now I have both tunes to lean in on and the next owner will have multiple options to choose from too.

Well, it was actually about $2500 between APR ECU tune(and shop flashes / reflashes), map switching, mobile dongle, and TVS DSG tunes that I ‘threw away’. And the reason was, the car was not performing to the level I felt it should be. Yes, it sucks to lose that money, and there are LOTS of other things I could have done with it, but making sure the bigger investment (the car) is running right was worth it to me to make the switch.

APR is part of a huge organization. Getting personal attention for individual problems was difficult. Having to pay between $60 and $120 and drive an hour and a half round trip every time a new flash revision came out was painful.

With Unitronic I get fast response to questions, and the ability to change the tune at home, and ECU & TCU tune that we’re designed to work together.

One thing to try is to set your suspension to comfort. My experience and that of others that have posted is that comfort mode allows for more rear end squat and can help with your 60 foot time.

I found it was good for at least .1 off my 60 stock and uni 1+ e85. I’m on stock staggered wheels and tires.

Well thanks for explaining that, makes more sense overall on why you made the switch. I do agree with multiple things you stated like having to drive to get flashed everytime, though for me it's been upgrading vs problems. I do wish apr had the dongle like uni has, makes life easier. The main reason I went apr is because uni still doesn't have any tunes ecu/tcu available for my box code on my 2020my. Apr does, and it's been fantastic what I've been able to do to it power wise. APR'S customer service has been good to me and that's unfortunate you've had bad experiences with them. Glad your enjoying your car though with your current set up. That's all that matters honestly.

Here are some of my runs from full stock to inlet upgrade and finally uni stage 1+.
Every run is on 98 Ron full weight but with some low DA.

    First is fully stock:

Here is with the APR inlet + elbow and K&N filter is stock air box:

And here is with Wagner EVO1 IC and Unitronic 1+ ECU and UNI TCU stage 2:

So from a magazine perspective with 1 foot rollout I do 0-60 is 2.9 sec :)
