Question Best source of carbon fiber parts

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
just ordered a piece from OSIR as they were the only company which carried that particular part. There seems to be several suppliers of other parts with prices all over the map. Neidfaktor is the most expensive, osir is the next highest and ECS seems reasonable but they don't disclose who they source from.

I'd appreciate everyone's thoughts on high quality source of carbon fiber parts.

side mirrors and spoiler. ECS has the spoiler listed at $400 while OSIR sells the part for $780

    maybe the Valance next year?

I’ve used Carbon-Designz for several parts, they use OEM Audi parts and cover those in your choice of carbon cloth so expect OEM ++ prices. Delivery can be slow but if you’re not in a hurry and you want a perfect product then I can recommend them ... just make sure you’re sitting down when you check the prices.

    https://carbon-designz.com/audi/a5-s5-rs5/8t.html

Remember you’re buying a genuine Audi part plus the work that goes into skinning it in carbon so for the rear spoiler, that’s a $870 part plus the work. It’s a lot of money but the fit and finish is OEM.

I have a ton of Carbon Fiber parts and a lot of them are from BKS Tuning/Carbon-Designz

As everyone else said the quality is hard to match but I waited 8-12 weeks for my orders and sometimes had to email Robert multiple times over weeks to place an order so be patient and prepared to spend!

I didn’t order direct from his website because there are parts that I wanted that he didn’t list so he will produce whatever you want.

Some of his prices are really high but some are actually reasonable considering the quality. I was also able to negotiate with him pretty easily.

I have also sourced some parts from Justin @ Kuhl Rennsport here on AZ and he’s a solid guy that produces nice parts at a very reasonable price.

I think we can diagnose Pete with acute carbonitis, a highly contagious condition among auto enthusiasts.
I have seen his car and the carbon parts are beautiful and of high quality.

Go through the painstaking task of getting in touch with Robert through email and negotiate pricing....it’s worth it if you are patient and want the quality

I know he recently jacked up his website pricing to actually reduce volume until he can handle the demand

If not go with Justin @ Kuhl Rennsport and you won’t be disappointed

I got my mirror cover from Neidfaktor and my steering wheel from Beast. Both are very high quality with the fit and finish. Seat backs were carbon dipped by a semi local guy. They turned out really well considering it’s a fakery.

Carbon 245 is OEM for most Exterior Parts and some Interior Parts but a lot of Interiors are done in Carbon Atlas

ECS parts are sourced from Taiwan. All the independent reviews I have read caution against parts from China and Taiwan; Quality and fitment issues.

So it is between 1sec and OSIR for me although I waiting to hear back from OSIR to see if they outsource also. @Beast has personal experience with 1sec but unfortunately they do not make the spoiler.

Designz is just way too expensive especially if you pile on the 20% "tax"

Agreed on the parts from China and Taiwan.

Justin@Kuhl Rennsport is another option. He’s in Canada and is a vendor on AZ. Very fair pricing, great quality and service.

S5 uses Carbon Atlas pattern on interior carbon, RS5 uses 245 2x2 Twill Weave pattern.

I hate Carbon-Designz - amazing quality for sure but terrible service and they never fixed/replaced the error they made despite over 20 emails (yes 20) to Robert as they shipped me Gloss finish when I'd ordered Matte. Initially he said he'd have UPS pick it up and then he stopped replying to emails.

I've used NVD in Thailand (interior parts), Beast here on AZ (exterior trim, steering wheel, shifter knob), MACarbon (extended shifter paddles), Carbon-Designz (a-pillars and airbag cap) and a couple others and they all look pretty good. Now am trying out Justin from Kuhl Rennsport and he's been excellent in terms of communication and am looking forward to getting my latest batch of products from him soon so I will report more when they arrive but so far am impressed with his service.

I ordered the front lower lip from OSIR already. The side view mirrors will come from Beast, when I get a chance to order them.

Osir’s Spoiler is finished CF all the way around. Waiting to hear back from ECS on spoiler.

No one carries all three except designz. So a bit worried about patterns not matching.

Don't stress the match - as long as you told all of them you have an RS5 and need the 245 2x2 Twill, it all comes out the exact same - pattern-wise, you can't tell any of my parts apart at all even though they came from 5 different places - it's pretty remarkable how standardized the patterns are across various manufacturers...

    update:

ECS spoiler is only finished on top. OSIR has finished carbon fiber all the way around. Explains the price difference. I will see the quality of the products from OSIR in about a week or so when I am expected to receive the front lower lip.

@jschrauwen, how much was that rear valance? Did it come with the CF splitter for it too? The deval is a bit too aggressive for what I'm after so I'm either painting the platinum grey factory valance to black or going that CF route. Hows the fitment in person?

Are there any companies that do just a plain flat CF or even plastic skirt all around for a B8 ? I don’t mind the maxton design ones but they don’t sit as well on the B8 as they do on the B8.5.

Anyone seen any decent rear pod skirts ?

    Hi Spense5
As you probably know, the 3.2L came with twin mufflers with a single tip on each. The A5 3.2L mufflers are the same as the S5 4.2L mufflers except the inboard ports for each muffler are blocked off and not used. I cut off the blocked port caps and the original oem muffler tips and had 4 new muffler tips welded on. The exhaust now sounds close to what the AWE Touring exhaust does but for fractions less.
By converting to a quad exhaust I had to find a new diffuser for my non S-Line bumper as the S5 ones don't fit. I found a plastic one that was quite understated from Ali Express but the fitment was terrible and it required a lot of modding/massaging to get it to fit reasonably well.
Having such a bad experience with Ali Express in this regard made me a bit hesitant to take a chance on them again with a CF variant. I found a different vendor this time around and the product quality and shipping packaging was top drawer. The CF diffuser install required minimal massaging and took only 20 minutes to install including that massaging. The bumper is still the original non S-Line A5 bumper. There is/was no splitter. Not sure what you're asking there? I preferred a more simple / understated diffuser and I didn't want one with that chrome bar on it either. The lines are smooth and almost oem looking.

This is the Ali Express diffuser I got. It's the same vendor where I got my CF mirror covers from.

OSIR was very good at replacing the first spoiler they sent. They said that they test fit the part on an RS5 before shipping it out to me. But I think their acceptance criteria is a bit less stringent than mine

I have adjusted this thing 100 ways and still cannot get it to fit. Just can't deal with it sticking up a bit.

Unfortunately they have gone dark on me and are not responding so I think I may have to take a bath on this. I think the only option is to go with Carbon Designz

As much as I hated Carbon-Designz due to the issue I had with them, after having endless issues with everyone else too, I'm no longer as sour on CD, mostly because of the quality. I ordered Matte, they shipped Gloss, acknowledged the error but never picked the item up or issued credit for the cost of having a local guy re-coat it. I swore I'd never use them again after that but his quality is still #1 vs the rest and last time I checked his site out, they even had some price reductions.

As an authority on all things carbon fiber I agree.....I have tried multiple fabricators and it’s always the same story.....they take 3-4 times longer to send you the parts and give you the run around about when they will be completed and the product isn’t always great

CD takes a while but has never mislead me on timeline and the finished product has always been above expectations

And he has been flexible with pricing when I have asked which is great

I've always been a fan of CD, but they have not been responsive when I reached out before ordering! I decided to go with Neidfaktor, a little more expensive, but at least they answer the phone.

Never been disappointed with Robert at CD though. I still look at my carbon parts and say "that's damn beautiful..."
