I have a 2011 with well below 100k miles so I would assume my car has to be included. However, I am guessing Audi will find a way of weaseling out of it by including clauses that limit members of the class to those with last names exceeding 20 letters and those born on any day of the week not ending in "y".

Coolant and a/c do not need to be drained or touched for this service.

It takes that sort of time for the 4.2 v8 because the engine needed to be removed and it was on the backside, this job is probably close to 4.

Just pulled my estimate from my tensioner replacement on my 2.0T, says 7hrs. That was just the estimate tho, could’ve very well been less. Certainly no more than 7 tho.

The official line on this (and they have a prepared statement if you chat to them online, which I forgot to copy) is that letters "are to be sent on or before August 28th" (emphasis mine), which is tomorrow - which could mean anything. Waiting for mine (2010 2.0t)

Ya. Curious to see when/if they show up for me. The airbag control module recall notice showed up in my mail (and of course I had it done), so I’d assume Audi of America knows how to contact me for this.

My dealership charged me the following (by the book hours, apparently):
    Tensioner only: 5.1 hours
    Tensioner + chain + guides: 5.9 hours

    Seems pretty fair to me.

Agreed that seems fair. It took me about 32 hours for everything. I’d believe that someone who does this for their profession would accomplish it in 1/6 the time I did. Especially because they do service position instead of taking everything (bumper, intercooler, AC condenser, radiator, lock carrier, etc.) completely off and cleaning the heck out of them (like I did).

Good info. Just checked mine and it said I was eligible. I haven't done the chain tensioner yet though. Let's see what the letter says.

    Woo-hoo, eligible.
Just scanned my receipt (had it done while they had engine pulled for oil consumption) will fill out form today. Now if they would only own up and take care of the carbon cleaning.

I'm hoping this means that future tensioner and timing chain replacements will be fully covered. I have been waiting for a resolution to this lawsuit before taking action.

You don't "need" it it's optional. It will probably help speed up the process but you can submit without it. In my case I have no idea if I'd even get a letter like this. I just bought the car last year.

I wouldn't wait. It still hasn't even been approved yet. We could be years away still. Your tensioner could go at any moment and once it does the cost goes up significantly.

I think the 10 year/100,000 mile cap is weak, a large % of owners drive more than 10K a year and should have been at least 120K cap on miles.
My VIN qualifies but I’m past the 100K mark
VW did extended warranty for Intake Manifold defective flap and it was 10yr/120K, still only 12K per year which is low for most people’ DD

So from the claim site: https://www.timingchainlitigation.com/Home/submitClaim: If you are a United States or Puerto Rico resident who purchased or leased a Settlement Class Vehicle and spent money to repair a timing chain or timing chain tensioner, or repair or replace a damaged or failed engine due to failure of a timing chain or timing chain tensioner, within the applicable time/mileage parameters and prior to August 28, 2018, you may submit a claim for reimbursement of those out-of-pocket expenses.

So does this mean that if you haven't gotten it done as of yesterday you are SOL and will not be reimbursed, or Audi will not cover fixing this?

I’m sorry to say this but after this experience I don’t think I have it in me to buy another Audi... Audi knew the engine design was bad. Should’ve redesigned it and made a recall. These engines have 2 major problems that I know of. The oil consuming problem and the tensioner. Companies have a responsibility to keep the consumers happy. Audi is doing a poor job at that:/

The reimbursement table doesn’t look promising. I fall under 7-10 years in-service date since my car is 2010, and its between 85,001 - 100,000 miles. According to the table, I will be only getting 25% reimbursement! The reimbursement table doesn’t make sense since the model cars affected is 2009-2011 I think so most of these will fall under 7-10 in-service date.

Haven't gotten the letter yet but I had talked to a rep at AOA last week and registered my vin. Looking it up on the above site I'm included in the settlement so here's to hoping I can get something out of preemptively having my tensioner and guides done. Probably the hardest to track down bit will be the previous owners oil change records. The car has good records with Audi during the initial warranty period and I did call the shop the car was serviced at post warranty before I purchased it and while they wouldn't provide me with the actual records they said it had very regular oil changes. Maybe I'll just roll any settlement funds I'm lucky enough to get into going k04.

Here's an email response I got yesterday from a local Audi service rep.

So to be perfectly honest, we are not sure what the stipulations are for a qualifying repair. We are on day 2 of this whole thing and are trying to get some answers.

There is supposed to be a meeting with our warranty administrators and Audi to get more information.

I will contact you again and let you know as soon as I hear something.

This is exactly why I just pulled the trigger to front the money have mine replaced last Saturday before the letters were sent out... I have a feeling Audi is going to pull some "The dealership will inspect the tensioner and if it's not extended past 6 teeth, the tensioner does not need to be replaced."

Got all my receipts together and I'm waiting on my letter which has a code you have to enter before it allows you to proceed with the claim.

I spent around $800 in parts for the old CAEB engine. Don't think they will accept the 2nd cover I bought to do the gasket material right the second time Lol.

I am just going to drive to my local Audi dealership and see if they can expedite this process. If not, I will fill the form out.

In the past, my dealership has been top notch amazing with all my previous audi's/VW's even completing all my warranty work while pretty modified. Went APR 2+ on my golf R after only 3,000 miles and they still worked on my car for free
