key fob in pocket opens trunk when I sit - how to block function?

I have my wife's car, keys for work and home and etc on my keychain. I put the keychain in my pocket and once in a while the trunk opens. This has happened twice during rain storms when the car was parked outside. Not good.

Is there a way to block the key-fob trunk open feature? i'd like to still be able to open the trunk from the rear release button on the back of the car and from inside, but it would be handy if the key fob did NOT open the trunk.

I thought of dabbing some super glue on the key fob. I'm looking for a slightly less destructive scheme.

    Thanks!

You can turn that off from car settings.

    Excellent. How?

I found the Central Locking screen and I messed around with the settings. So far no joy.

I'm pretty sure "disable rear lid handle" does just that - disables the outside handle button. Have you tried unchecking "open with convience key" and pressing the trunk button? If that doesn't do it, then you may have to get in the habit of placing your smart key in that little slot to the right of the shift lever instead of keeping it in your pocket.

Fun fact - I run into the same problem as you sometimes while sitting on the couch at home. The garage is on the other side of the wall and there's been several times where I've walked into the garage and found the rear lid open.

With the OBDEleven you can change the setting of the fob where for example you need to hold it down for 3 second for the boot to open instead of 1.

The ODBEleven looks like an interesting device. I have to see if my Android tablet can do this. I don't use Android for cellphones, so far, but the tablet may be able to do it.
I will go talk to the local Audi service and see if they can make these adjustments.

In my case the car is parked outside and getting rain in the trunk, and on the electronics in the trunk, was not a happy event.

I tried the disable rear handle option. This didn't seem to have any effect at all on the key fob OR the trunk release on the back of the car.
Perhaps I have to do something to activate the change? I did the X, then hit back button, then shutdown the car, locked the car with the FOB, then opened the trunk with the FOB, closed it, and then opened the trunk with trunk release on the back of the car.

    Did i skip a step?

The option in Vehicle settings makes it so you cannot open the trunk from the back of the car, only from the fob or inside the car at the drivers door. I need to block the FOB.
I asked the dealership in Cary NC about changing the setting to make the FOB less sensitive. They said there was nothing they could do. It took them more than a day to come back with the answer. It was a while ago. They suggested using the second FOB that came with the car. I did that swap. I also have been maintaining a ritual of putting the keys away every day when I come home from work.
Yesterday morning my wife got up before me (as is usual) and when she went to her car to go to work my trunk was open and it was raining out.
Ok. Now I'm pissed. The evening before I had forgotten to put the key away so the fob was in my pants pocket. I suspect I did something to compress the key again.
I'd really like to NOT have to put the key away every time I come into the house. I'm often going to the car for something when I'm outside and finding that I have no keys. Ditto the house keys. Walk around to the shed for the leaf blower, no key. Greet visitor out by the driveway and head to the front door (having exited through the back door) and no key.
Does nobody else have this problem? How can that be?

    Time for the superglue?

    Super glue or rope....

Hearing what happened to you in the rain really makes me feel fortunate that both our cars live in the garage. I still open the trunk at least once a week, regardless if it's the car or the Q5. I pants lock them a lot too. I also tried leaving the keys out of my pocket, but I'd always get the alert on the dash about needing the key and I'd have to go back in to look for it. Interesting thing is I've never had this problem before the b9, however I would sometimes have the fob hit just right to trigger the panic button. I haven't pants triggered the panic button on this one at all.

I really feel for you and the rain. Sorry man.

The 2019 models had their key changed so you have to hit the button twice for the trunk to open, probably for this exact reason. It happens to me all the time in my allroad. I am not sure if we can have it programmed to do the same as the 2019s but it would be nice. Sounds like OBDEleven is probably going to be your best bet.

    I hear you tadd!
Happened to me already numerous times. I’m planning to complain about that when I go back for some other stuff. I’m also getting my car serviced at Audi Cary.

I have been having the same issues with my 2018. Even had my golf clubs stolen because of this.
