    RS3 Insurance quote ridiculously high

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Folks, I got a huge disappointment with an insurance quote from GEICO. GEICO wants just a hair under $200/month to insure my RS3... That is insane!! my S3 was barely over $100/month (same company). My S3 was $50,365 MSRP, the RS3 is roughly $60,500 MSRP with the 3 options so is not like it cost twice what it cost the S3.

This is a low blow. What insurance carriers do you have? are you also paying that much? I am not happy at all. My last speeding ticket was in 1996 and I took defensive driving, never had DWI, never drove a car without insurance or registration and I have nearly 30 years with my license. I use the car as leisure and don't even put 10k miles a year. What am I missing?

I had other more expensive new cars in the past considered sports cars with a lot more horse power and they cost me almost half of that. what is happening?. My wife's insurance car also went up even though her car got older and it has more mileage. Time to split with geico?

Any GEICO insured cars owners here with RS3s?

Geico quoted me $122/mo for the RS (250/500k liability, 100k property, etc)

    I'm 24 with a clean record.

My insurance is even higher than that I use Amica (not as well known) I pay 271 a month I was paying 200 with S3 it’s crazy also depends where you live Jersey is pretty expensive as is but 200 seems high for geico I was quoted at around 120 for them I stuck with my current company because they offer extras and really good customer service and claims follow through

I pay $190/mo for my Q5 and my RS3 on the same policy with my homeowners insurance and with full coverage through MetLife. I got a quote from Liberty Mutual for same coverage at $155/mo.

Had Geico years ago and dropped them for their high rates.

Ha! I was shocked as well.

    Coming from a 17 TTS paying $80 a month to the RS3 $130 a month.....

A 4 door car vs a 2 door sports car You would think it be cheaper. Nope and thats the cheapest i can find with Progressive, all the other quotes were around $300 a month.

Whats more scarier.....I'm 31 with a clean record

Weird i didn’t get the TTRS because it was going to be $200 a month and my RS3 is $116 a month. I did raise the deductible a bit to $750 but still was not too bad before. Saved maybe like $7 a month lol. Using Geico as well. I’m 35 with slightly naughty record lol. Reside in Florida.

how is that even possible?, I had my driving license before you were born and super clean driving record. my deductible suppose to be $500. That is exactly why I am very upset. I don't even drive that much (retired).

That is exactly why I am here whining. I live in Arizona, clean record, almost 30 years with license, no speeding tickets/accidents and with geico for 5 years now. Something is not right. Is not like I got pop for a second extreme DWI and got into an accident.

I hate ICBC but really the rates are not THAT bad. Ontario has private insurance and they pay more than we do. My car is $2250/year to insure with $300 comp deductible, $1000 collision deductible, 2 million liability, work within 15 km, and underinsured protection. I do get "max discount" which is ICBC speak for normal non-surcharged price. My old 2011 GTI had all the same stuff and it was $1700/year.

Yea - shop around. I'm 27 with a clean record (minus some speeding tickets) and my Golf R was ~$50/mo., my 2017 Porsche Cayman is only $67/mo. ($73k MSRP)
When I was quoting the RS3 it was about the same as the Porsche...

This is all for $250k/500k coverage at $500 deductible through GEICO
Keep in mind, location (your specific address) plays a huge part in insurance costs too. I live about 30minutes outside of Cleveland in a very rural area

One thing that really bugs me about insurance here (not sure elsewhere) is there is no garage discount. My car is parked in a garage so the chances of it being vandalised/broken into/crashed into by a drunk/hail damage/tree falling on it etc etc are literally nil. If my house catches on fire and the car burns, house insurance covers that. There should be a significant discount if the car is store in a garage overnight IMO.

  21. #21
I just did a quote with Geico as I'm trying to get into an RS3 and my insurance would drop $1.50, yes a dollar fifty over the term for 6 months by going to an RS3 from a Golf R.

Roughly $85/mo. 36, married and accident at beginning of year.

Shop around, do online quotes. Your credit score has a bigger impact on your insurance than driving record.

Well, there is a say in Spanish that says: "la avaricia rompe el saco" meaning that it gets to the point were someone gets so greedy that they lose it all. I called USAA and I am at $843/ per 6 months vs $1185/6 months so $57/month to my pocket and $23/ month on my wife's car. That's $80/ month saved.

I thought I was in good hands with Geico but I guess that are better deals out there.

this is 100% correct, that's where actuarial science comes into play. i am from miami and my insurance has always been high there and when i moved to nashville, TN for work for 8 years, my insurance went from 275/month to 155/month on my amg at the time....

then 2 yrs ago i moved back to south FL and the insurance on my jeep wrangler(sold the amg) went from 80/month in TN to 165/month in south FL lol

Just for kicks, you can quote a change of address too in Geico (from what I remember) along with the car quote. Pick what you know as a good, rural neighborhood and just pick an address there (Google Maps) just to check the price difference.
And the # of uninsured makes sense - if there's lots of uninsured, then geico has to cover their ass for the statistically higher eventuality that you would get into an accident with an uninsured driver.

This. I'm in a horrible location for premiums due to bad drivers, congested city, theft, fraud and such. Being over 40, kids and a home owner probably help my rate go down though. My premium is $117/mo for the RS3 and $162/mo total if I add my 2018 Q5.

edit: Forgot to add that the info above is for $300k/$300k coverage.

I heard BC and Ontario had crazy rates but that's nuts

You literally cannot insure a car here for $100 a month. Maybe some jalopy with no collision but of course the price mostly comes from liability. It takes eight years of accident free driving to get to maximum "discount" (which is basically no longer being surcharged) as well. The other ridiculous thing is the insurance stays with the vehicle, not the driver, so for me to insure say three vehicles they each have their own independent policy at full price even though I can only drive one at a time. Oh yeah and the "replacement cost" insurance for the RS3 (gap insurance) was $1000 per year for a minimum of two years and maximum of four .

Now do you want to talk about housing prices? Hahaha

What are you paying now? I'm mainly interested because you're the only one in here who is from SoCal...and location has a lot to do with rates. I'm paying $190 a month for my TTRS with Allstate.
