Cabin Air Filter Won’t Go Back In

I bought a new cabin air filter online and ensured that it was proper fitment for my 2012 S4. I even double-checked by putting the new one next to OEM one and they were identical in dimensions.

But when I tried to put the new cabin air filter in - no matter how hard I fidget and shove, at least an inch is still out and not “flush” so the white plastic cover can close itself.

I even attempted to put the OEM one back in, and even IT is being lame/having the same issue.

    What can be wrong here?

Oh, and I made sure it’s definitely being installed in the correct direction also.

I just had this exact same thing happen when changing the cabin filter on my buddies A5, we just ended up smashing it in there until we have time to take another look at it, it's in there but like you said the bottom is wrinkled and doesn't sit nice and flush like the original one was.

I remember there is an awkward bend when you re-install the filter which troubled me the most. you almost have you "pre-bend" the filter prior to inserting it.

Make sure it's not turned the wrong way. The folds in the filter should run horizontally.

I can't believe I experienced this oversight! As soon as I ensured to run the filters horizontally, the cabin air filter went in smoothly.

Thank you all for your input!

Late to the party but I saw this in another thread and figured I would post it here to help anyone else with this issue.

Yup, just happened to me now. I was just thinking notch to upper right and didn't even think of the other orientation. Thanks!
(Plug and engine air filter change went fine and this stupid thing hung me up for an hour)
