    A CPO 2017 RS7 or a New 2017 Nissan Gtr

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys! I currently own a new 2016 Audi a7 and thinking about an upgrade to something faster and more exciting. But I'm wondering if I should get a CPO RS7 with low mileage or a brand new 2017 left over GTR. Both of these are within the 90k to 100k range.
What do you guys think the depreciation curve will be for both cars if I make the purchase it now. Rumor is the next gen RS7 will be in the US towards the end of 2019 and next-gen GTR will be somewhere around the end of 2020. What would be a resonable choice to make now and I won't lose a chunk again on this purchase like the last one on my A7. Thanks!

I think you'll get a lot more satisfaction out of the RS7. The GTR has one cool factor, speed.

The RS7 will have all of the beautiful options that you'll definitely enjoy - all of the drivers assistance stuff, night vision, bells and whistles, you name it. Plus, the damn seats - can't beat those either.

The GTR interior is, in my opinion, a little cheap - try a "knock" test on the door panels compared to the RS.

I don't own either but generally speaking when a new generation of a product comes out the price of the old gen goes down. Regardless of what car you chose I would try to hold out for another year or so because you could save yourself quite a bit of money.

I have a stage 1 S7 and my bff has a 16 GTR so i drive both very often. They are near equally fast but TOTALLY DIFFERENT animals. My advice is test drive both as that should clear things up a lot for you.

I just ditched my tuned 2016 S6. While its not an RS7 - It was still a near 600hp nicely powered car. I haven't discussed much about why - as those reasons are only relevant to me. But I am searching for a 2017 GTR with under 5k miles to replace it as my play car. They can be had for well under what you would pay for a RS7. I have a new daily driver that I bought just to drive with no issues - the S6 was not that car for me for that. Also have a 2018 Audi Q7.

As stated above...they are vastly different cars. 2017 and up got a host of upgrades and new interior making it a better daily for some...hence my looking for that year. Previous to a 2017, I would do a 14 or after if I found the right car. In my head - the RS7 is a power daily, and the GTR is more enthusiast. I have found 2 great customizing shops here in Dallas - 1 Audi and 1 GTR. The GTR shop gets them to well over 1000hp easily with a great deal of reliability. Im 54 so not interested in that..but its nice to know its there.

Also - it seems GTR holds value really well. I'm seeing many 2012s hovering around 65k+ average.

Both are amazing cars...it comes down to your personal preference and how you want to use it.

For a fun weekend car = GTR

    For everything else RS7.

If you intend to drive it a lot in traffic = RS7 all the way. The GTR is a track monster but a dated platform with dated electronics. As dated as the current RS7 is, overall the car is a LOT more car.

If this is mostly about money and trying to lose the least amount of it i'd suggest the RS7. There is a much wider customer base for this vehicle for a future sale imho because it's so versatile.

The RS7 is in a different league than the GT-R. You can always make a car go faster, but you can't make it more luxurious.

Depends what you want, but in my case (56 here), I value luxury and refinement on my sports (or sporty) cars, since you can definitely have both. I owned a 2015 GTR bought sight unseen (based on reviews), and to say I was highly disappointed is an understatement. The interior was absolute crap, and don't think the minor changes on the current version change that much. The seats were the worst I've ever had, and I'm a thin guy (5'10" and 160#). With their stupid squared bolsters, they caused cramps. And even without that deal-breaker, they were very uncomfortable and lack adjustabliity. It was fast, but that about it. Oh, and for that it required for me to buy Boostane (an octane booster), since above 90ºF with just 91 octane (can't find more than that in half the country, including where I live), it turns to 'low boost mode'. It hardly felt quicker than my Corvette. with octane booster or 93 gas, then it's properly fast. The driving experience is also the worst of all my sports (and sporty) cars. And the transmission (Borg Warner) was just awfully unrefined, and with only 6 gears, therefore engine screaming at highway speeds. I sold it right away after my first (awful) trip on it, and lost my proverbial butt, even though I bought it 10 grand below MSRP. And now, it's even more dated. I'd not buy that car at all, but to each his own. Other much better choices for that much. Car is a pig, useless back seats, and looks that only a mother could love. He he.

Some really good points above, and I can add that the GTR is a dude magnet. Just ask any owner. No chicks will approach you because they don't know what it is, but you'll have every swinging dick hit you up at the gas station asking you how much horsepower it makes, what mods you have done, and how fast it runs.

good point also, what I like too about the RS7 is its discretion, it's rare I'll have someone pull along side trying to play which is nice if you're an older guy. I'd have to assume the GTR brings every knuckle dragger in a 100 mile radius wanting to see what you've got, definitely not my thing...

This is what every GTR owner I know has said happens. Anytime, all the time. A friend with a nice collection (Viper, Aventador, SLS, ZR-1, Z06, etc.) said more people have tried to egg him on in his GTR than any of his other cars.

Thank you all for the replies! They are all very helpful! What do you guys think is a fair price for a 2017 RS7(not performance model) with 1500 miles should cost?

RS7 is a very fast straight line sporty luxury sedan, GT-R is more of a race car you can drive on the streets. The GT-R will out handle the RS7 hands down and has so much more modding available to go fast. The RS7 is so much more comfortable and practical to drive. It really comes down to what you want and how much you want to put into it. With very little investment the RS7 turns into a beast, while the GT-R has endless modding potential but could cost a fortune if you get carried away. I have always wanted a GT-R but I test drove both and realized the RS7 was really more of what I wanted and landed on that. Can’t lie though, I still think about a modded GT-R deep in the 9s or faster :)

To be honest, I'd say the RS7 is way cheaper to mod than a GTR, and handles as well as 99% of any driver would ever need. If you want track day fun, the GTR is going to hand the RS7 its ass. Different purposes all together. I'd like to own and drive a GTR some day, just for the experience, but I'd give up a lot in order to do so.

I agree with you and since I currently own an A7, I would be more happier to have something similar. I saw that you used to have a milltek nonresonated exhaust and I’m curious how is daily driving with that exhaust feel? Is it too loud for longer trips or is it just enough for the RS7?

The Milltek is nice and has an aggressive note, not an issue on the highways for my tastes but to each their own. Heck some think the Roc-Euro intake is too loud and I could hardly hear it hehe. I think the Milltek is probably the best value for the RS7 available right now. The Akra sounds good, but not sure it’s $$$$ good, I try not to think too much about how much I spent. I have it now and likely will not revert back, but that money might be better spent somewhere else first. I do love the looks of the tailpipes on the Akra, that part is a very nice touch. Don’t get me wrong, the Akra sounds good, better than anything else I have heard, it’s just a crap load more than the rest!!

I’ve owned a GTR and now have an RS7. I have to say my Stage 2 APR is just as fast in a straight line as my bolt on GTR. The track numbers don’t lie either. The RS7 is such a better all around car... I’d say the only things that are better in the GTR are the transmission and handling. Both of those, while being better, sacrifice a comfortable ride quality.

I recently traded in my GTR for the RS7, and I certainly agree with just about every comment made above! The GTR was a bunch of fun, crazy fun at times, but the RS7 is such a well rounded beast.

Every once in a while I miss the GTR punch, but given the RS7 package overall, I wouldn’t go back...unless I had both. And I think I’d still mostly drive the RS7, except for the occasional speed fix.

Last...the GTR is too much a dude magnet. I get it, some people like that...but after a while....ugh....

is a good analogy, Stage 1+S4 to RS7 and the difference was shocking my first track trip 2 months after purchase, funny that didn't last 3 weeks before stage 1 was on the car, which lead to more - but in a good way like you said.

I looked at the GTR for a minute as well. All the 0 to 60 vids are enticing however I couldn't get passed the ugliness of the GTR. It looks extraordinarily pedestrian to me. Of course looks are subjective. I have had my RS7 for 6 months now and have to say it kicks arse.

My friend complains about another rattle or creaking in his 3 yr old GTR, never with any of his Porsches or German cars.

Why not look at a used 911 turbo S. More speed than GTR with almost as much luxury as the RS7
Current Fleet: Porsche 718 Spyder * Audi S5 Sportback * Audi RS5 Sportback
    On order: Audi RSQ8 Performance

911 is for sure my ultimate goal but for now I can only own 1 car and it needs to be practical.

I think you meant...I can only own 1 car and it need to be [massive air quotes] practical [massive air quotes]...lol...

My practical = must seat 5 so the S7 and RS7 aren't an option...I'd go RS7 every day, the GTR just doesn't do it for me and if it's my daily driver, I think the interior of the RS7 would win me over for sure.

I tried to do the same thing and it never worked. If you need practicality, get a freaking 4-door car, period. The GTR is a crap car other than for being a hooligan. It's unrefined, ultra noisy inside, no space at the back, very uncomfortable (especially at the rear, with those crap vinyl seats) unless you're anorexic, and it has an overall cheap interior to boot. Look elsewhere man. Even a used 911 would be miles more comfortable, but still not practical.

I looked at GTRs as well and to me it's still considered a weekend car. Nissan improved the interior with the refresh but it's still really noisy and clunky sounding on the inside.
