    RNS-E iPhone Integration Options

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know there have been threads on this, but I haven’t found a straight answer, and most of the modules have been discontinued.

What’s everyone using for iPhone integration in the RNS-E? When I had my Symphony II in my last B6, I used a Dice electronics integration kit, but looks like they’re unavailable for the RNS-E.

Bluetooth isn’t a necessity, but would be nice. Just need the ability to hardwire into my iPhone 7 Plus, stream music, and preferably something that charges at the same time.

    TIA!

I got the Aux cable that plugs into the back on the unit and I got the A3 faceplate which has slightly curved edges on the top corners so the Aux cable comes out of there nicely. Then I got my usb charger for power...

I ran an aux cable for a year before I decided to really look for a bluetooth option. I eventually settled for one of these. It's relatively cheap and works quite well. The only thing I had to do was run a wire to the fuse box for power. It's been running strong for 4 months now and I much prefer it to the aux cable. The only downside is you cant take calls using it, it only does streaming.

As a side note, this one looks to not need any additional power wires and should connect to the factory harness.

There used to be a seller on Amazon that sold a unit with a microphone for hands free calling that had great reviews but its no longer listed there. Unfortunately all of these solutions omit charging. Its not a big deal for me though since I dont need to charge my phone when driving. If Im on a road trip I just use my usb charger.

The aux in Bluetooth Module looks good. Apparently you an use the Mic that comes installed in the roof console. Although I don’t know how to do this, anyone that’s done it please chime in.
Is it a vagcom code issue?

I think any aftermarket bluetooth module that gets installed needs the harware and firmware to support hands free calling. I dont know how easy it would be to use the stock microphone and wiring with aftermarket bluetooth modules.

I think it would just be easier to buy an aftermarket module that comes with a microphone and wiring and run it all up to the location of the stock microphone.

I use the OEM bluetooth module for telephone use, and also have the OEM AMI glovebox module for streaming music and charging. Works pretty good overall, music streaming with 3rd part apps like Spotify can be a little quirky, but it works.

This is fully functional with MFSW as well.

Not sure how recent the information is on this thread, but it should be enough to get you started. Do keep in mind that the stock bluetooth module does not support A2DP (the protocol that allows music streaming).

Harness is plug and play and will let you stream your music. Also you can use USB sticks, in case you want an alternate source (e.g., passengers). Had one of these in my B7 and it was great.

    My setup:

    RNSE: 8P0 035 193 G
    Bluetooth Module: 8P0 862 335 B

See the thread below for info on which AMI modules will work, and some related topics you may want to consider. I don't have access to the part number of my AMI but there are specific versions that work properly while others don't.

I chose this particular setup because I wanted an OEM solution.

There are no OEM bluetooth options that support A2DP in the B6/7, FYI. You either need to use a third party solution, like tune-2-air, or use OEM AMI and stream with the phone plugged into the AMI.

The RNS-E does not contain any bluetooth hardware. Bluetooth hardware/connectivity comes from the bluetooth module that is a separate piece of hardware.

I ran an auxiliary cable from headphone jack to back of radio and the sound quality was less than sub par. I think this is what I replaced it with, the sound is great, loud, consistent and it charges the phone and works with any music device. I plug my phone in under the center arm rest

the front speakers are powered by the head unit in a non-Bose setup. The head unit is the same either way.

So with that being said, my front speakers should work regardless which rnse?
They worked just fine with the symphony 2 but nothing after I plugged in BOSE rnse

yes, there's no such thing as a 'Bose RNS-E'. did your RNS-E adapter harness have the brown 8-pin connector for the front speakers? Is it coded properly for a non-bose setup?

It does have the brown connector.
I didn’t mean BOSE rnse, the seller told me it came from a Bose equip Audi.

I got to take it out again because the aux cable is no longer working.. it did before I installed it in the car. And now since it’s installed properly, it no longer works so I’ll check the brown connector again

I would highly recommend a plug in universal bluetooth unit. They're much cheaper and work flawlessly. Some have noise cancelling which works great. Literally less than $20. Some for $15. It'll bring in calling and music streaming for a fraction of the cost of "add-ons". You won't have audio control through steering wheel or head unit...also won't have phone charging capabilities, but honestly you'd only get 0.5-1 amp which is useless. Also, one benefit of using one of these universal ones is that they support the latest compression codecs. Sound quality will be much much better.
