Thoughts on this 2014 Audi SQ5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi All;

I have been in the market for a SQ5, 14/15' model year and come across one that looked great. Has checks most of the boxes for me
    - two sets of wheels and tires (one new, one shot).
    - magma interior
    - low kms, 47K kms (29K miles)
    - white or blue color (glacier white this one)
    - it is located fair distance away but shipping via rail is easy and quite cheap.

Checking with Audi now for vehicle history (warranty claims) and if there is an extended warranty.

Here is the add for the vehicle (keep in mind price is in Cdn dollars.

Given the repairs, im thinking of offering $37,000 (Asking $42,400). But still scares me in what was replaced, what was repaint.

You should definitely get more details about what exactly was repaired, especially since it's been in two accidents plus vandalized. This is even more important given it sounds like you're considering buying it sight unseen.

TBH, I would have a hard time pulling the trigger on it unless it was significantly below market value. And I say this as someone who now owns an SQ5 with an accident history.

After talking with them the vehicle is being sold under consolidation as well, so they cannot provide the details of the repairs. The current owner must go and provide this (government insurance in the province).

Oh and get this, major red flag. The tires are Blizzak (which are not made for this vehicle), turns out they are 101R.....not V or W rated but R (106mph). The "owner" of the dealer said to me, why would you ever go that fast anyway, thats illegal. If you dont like them, sell the tires privately and get ones you want (screw that hassle). I actually had to give him a lesson in tires and what the speed rating actually means. Typical used car salesman (bragged that they have Lambo's and Ferrari' and Telsa's on their lot)

So much for 160points inspections when a simple "tech" cannot catch such IMPORTANT details.

It is about $4K cheaper than market value now, well from the typical inflated prices at dealers. Given the repairs I wouldnt pay more than $37K (plus stupid taxes).

I also own an sq5 with accident history and was able to get very detailed information on repairs and what was done exactly. I got my car $10,000 below retail price (USD and I have a rebuilt title) and LOVE my car. I like the savings even more. If you are buying a car with history you need very specific information and it needs to be a good deal. Otherwise run away. The extra money spent on a clean car will be worth it.

Its been a few days, the dealer showed zero interest in obtaining the details on the repairs, told him my price to at which point he laughed.

Figured the vehicle should not take any depreciation hit for having such substantial repairs. Walking away for sure, from the fact of 3 claims within a 2 years and the shit tires the owner installed. Definitely not a vehicle a car guy would own.

    Joke 'em!

That comes from shortening the "{expletive deleted} 'em if they can't take a joke."

I think you walking away was a good move. I did have one question - why are you looking specifically for a 14/15 model year? Is there something special about those years or are they at the price point you want? I'm normally not a fan of the mixed color interior but I like the Magma interior.

I'm not the OP - but I am also biased, I feel the 2014-2016 MY are the SQ5 sweet-spot in terms of build quality, reliability vs. price. I specifically looked for 2014-2016 SQ5s with less than 42K miles when I found mine (2015 w/27K miles)

Indeed price point mainly. Hoping to sell mine privately and buy a SQ5 for around $10K, gaining a few years newer in the process.

Can anyone explain the pricing for these damn vehicles? I see 2014-2016 vehicles separated by $8K (canadian) with milage typically within 30K miles to 50K miles.

A 2015 with double the miles is $4K more expensive than a 2014....Or a 2016 typically goes for $49K with 10K miles, where a 2015 with 40K miles goes for $47K. Is it typical for the dealers to hold the prices high? I mean they are all optioned the same, all are fully loaded with NAV, BO etc.

Used car dealers don't know jack. In the past week I've asked two dealers to make corrections on the paint color they advertised. Some call the cars Prestige level when they aren't.

    I agree 100%.

When I was looking for my S4, I took to calling AudiUSA and ordering the Monroney sticker so I could verify the options and the trim. Thinking hard about moving to the SQ5 as I really likes the looks.

I would have never ended up with my SQ if I trusted the color listed on the ad. Good thing I decided to call the VIN into Audi before I took the 5 hr trip and bought a different one.
