Keith Brantley’s APR Tuned RS3 Runs 9’s in the Quarter Mile

First 2.5 TFSI EVO in the 9’s with a [email protected] MPH!

APR’s development on the 2.5 TFSI EVO continues with yet another set of records for the platform. On May 1st 2018, Keith Brantley piloted his APR Tuned RS3 into the 9’s, and backed up his record with eight 9-second passes! In doing so he set several records for the platform, including the following:

9.83 Seconds – Quarter Mile ET
144.41 MPH – Quarter Mile Trap Speed
    2.44 Seconds – 0-60 MPH via Dragy
    4.79 Seconds – 60-120 MPH via Dragy
    5.91 Seconds – 60-130 MPH via Dragy

Keith’s 9-second passes were as follows, including conditions, at Montgomery Raceway Park in Montgomery, Alabama:

    [email protected] - 2,175 FT Density Altitude (86.7F, 29%, 29.87 In.Hg.)
    [email protected] - 2,187 FT Density Altitude (86.1F, 31%, 29.87 In.Hg.)
    [email protected] - 2,197 FT Density Altitude (86.0F, 32%, 29.87 In.Hg.)
    [email protected] - 1,924 FT Density Altitude (81.4F, 40%, 29.86 In.Hg.)
    [email protected] - 1,930 FT Density Altitude (80.3F, 47%, 29.87 In.Hg.)
    [email protected] - 1,571 FT Density Altitude (74.6F, 61%, 29.87 In.Hg.)
    [email protected] - 1,382 FT Density Altitude (71.3F, 69%, 29.88 In.Hg.)
    [email protected] - 1,341 FT Density Altitude (70.8F, 69%, 29.88 In.Hg.)

Keith’s vehicle setup and modifications were as follows:

    2018 Audi RS3 2.5 TFSI
APR ECU & TCU Upgrades with E85
    TTE625 Drop-in Stock-Housing Turbo
    Intake System
Straight-Pipe / Dump Tube Exhaust System
    Intercooler System
    Fueling System
    18x8.5 Wheels
    245x40R18 Hoosier Drag Radials
    Seats Removed

Overall we’re impressed with the setup. Keith’s RS3 laid down over 600 WHP on our dyno, and was extremely capable at the drag strip. Given the turbo’s moderate size, the system makes for an excellent daily driver, without introducing significant lag, as is often the case with much larger, and more capable turbochargers. We would like to stress this is not a production product we currently sell, and much of the hardware upgrades are prototypes and proofs of concept. Our production hardware will begin rolling out later this year. Please stay tuned for more details while we continue to work on adding Program Switching and Full Encryption to the ECU to protect our world-class and record-setting ECU Upgrades before our official release!

Thank you to Keith Brantley for giving us the opportunity to make his RS3 fast. A special shout-out to Jeffrey Sanders and Montgomery Raceway Park for their hospitality and track prep! And thank you to Richard Conniff at Jack Ingram for all our VW, Audi and Porsche purchases!

    Huge THANKS to APR!

I want to thank APR and their team for all their support to make this happen. There was a great group of six who attended, physically helped, and supported this record. The software is obviously second to none and the track and dealership support was outstanding. The stock motor and tranny never missed a beat. The tranny never slipped and the shifts were incredible. APR has figured out the ECU and TCU and they are incredible together. Please be patient as we wait for program switching encryption to protect all their data. After watching what they go through to make all this happen I would want to protect it as well.

This record is all APR and not me. All I did was offer my car as a mule to see what they could accomplish and the results speak for themselves. Each and every car will have slightly different mods and the tuning has to match those mods. They found many different restrictions in the airways and working to improve them so there is still more in this platform. When we left the track at 8:00pm (dark) they were still finding ways to go faster but we had to call it a day. I drove the car back home to Orlando Florida yesterday without a hiccup making 26mpg at a decent rate of speed. Very easy to drive daily but the power is there when you need it. 😊

Many thanks to all who made this happen! Its very nice to work with such a professional group! You should visit the APR facility and see for yourself if you’ve not been there. It was nice to fly in, drive the car at that track for testing, then drive it over 400 miles home. 😊 Great job APR!

I just compared the 60-130mph from malaka's motorsport big turbot from IROZ . On youtube malaka's runs between 6.7 sec to 7.4 sec 60-130 (with an average of about 7 seconds flat) that is based on what I seen on youtube using draggy. Your car runs 5.91 sec, that is fast!!

Dad'srs7, your car looks very nice. Cool color indeed.

I get why they would want to encrypt, but people who want to play in the 9s are probably going to want to be able to adjust at the track and on the fly for conditions etc. The only reason you encrypt is to lock out adjustments if they don't provide a way to modify the map on the fly. I know its considered a new platform, but I think this car is moving too fast to be a fix it and forget it platform. Personally, I would want to be able to adjust the tune wherever I go for whatever I am seeing or encountering. If I go on a road trip I need to be able to adjust down to 91 if needed or the launch settings at the track. The tune's have to be flexible, look at the BMW n54 scene which is just now taking off getting into android tuning/ios tuning. Everything is a quck app adjustment and flash away. I think APR would get more customers if it was MORE open ended not less. Look at how prevalant HP Tuners is for GM stuff its wide open but most people come to them for tunes. Nissan GTR only sold about 1300 a year. Look how much stuff is on that platform. The RS3 will probably be the next big tuner car I would expect at least 3000 sales this year.

That's a big necessity on a lot of platforms because tuners take big time shortcuts to make the car fast in only a small window of conditions. That's not the way we tune.

If I go on a road trip I need to be able to adjust down to 91 if needed or the launch settings at the track.
I can't argue against changing launch setup - which is why with our DSG tune we typically allow you to have 3 launch RPM's you flash at the dealer (you choose them). AS for octane, we're working on full map switching for 91, 93, 100, 104 and E85.

3000 sales a year? are you talking about RS3 in particular or just 3000 apr tunes in general? there are not that many rs3 on the streets right now, maybe a few hundred.

I know currently yes, but I think will get there, the port fiasco hurt sales the first part of the year, but I definatly think we can get to above 2000 Rs3 sold this year and going up each year its offered.

It's hard to say, I don't think Audi would even allocate that many more cars. I think 1500 a year in USA and another 2 - 300 in Canada is probably a realistic number. I mean this has to be one of the more popular RS3 forums online and there aren't that many regular posters here.

The RS3 is a build to order non-limited model. They have a set number of allocations, but I can go down to audi and order one and it gets put in the queue. Only the 2017 was limited. We have already exceeded 2017 sales numbers this year. We are at like 300 sales even with the port being clogged up.

There were only ~170 2017's that went to the public, not very hard to get past that number. The port thing is somewhat irrelevant as those cars were sold in March. It had some people go elsewhere sure but most people waited and the cars that were abandoned were re-sold quickly. I still think 12-1500 cars per year is a pretty accurate number.

Looks like the plant can't make them fast enough, People ordering now are getting Fall dates. So we'll see if they maintain the pace of production or can squeeze out some more.

Sounds very promising Arin. Like I said before I have 6 weeks to pick my car from the factory and another 6-8 weeks to ship it back. I had APR tunes on my last 3 Audi cars including the current A6 TFSI from the wife, I like your products a lot but as we discussed before last year(recycle or die). If you guys can release the map switching and offer the partial ETHANOL tune you will quickly earn a big bulk of the tuning pie.

This, I am just guessing that since its taking 4-5 months for delivery on NEW orders that means they are backed up till then on current orders by at least 2 months, once the 2019s start getting ready I expect those wont deliver until spring if they are still making the orders from 2018 at the plant.

I watched the videos again and it is crazy how "relaxed" the launches are. By looking at the launches it doesn't seem to be doing a wicked 1.5 sec 60' but it is. I don't hear the tires spinning. I launched my S3 Stage 2 in a more dramatic way (spinning the tires a little bit) and I got 1.7s but the apr car seems like is not even breaking a sweat which makes me think that the TCU is very fine tuned.

I am used to see malagas's 700whp RS3 launching hard on the street and his car looks wild when launching.

Even if I open my mind the factory can't even make that many. remember, the factory at igolstad is the only one in the world making them and they are making all the RS there. I am going to be there picking up mine so I will certainly ask next month.

Hypotetically, not even everyone with an RS3 will tune their car and on top of that there are already a few tuners but lets just leave the numbers for later and lets cheer for our cars and how fast they are
8V RS3 [email protected] mph (ran a few 11.7s stock and ran 118+mph several times)
8Y RS3 k&N filter ran [email protected] (ran 11.6 5 times and trapped 120+ several times)
    at 3100ft elevation

I'm referring to cars just as the original poster you replied to.

Audi sold 180,000 cars last year, of which only 29,000 were in the us :)

You guys are a small market believe it or not.

Uhhhh. That was one month. December.

Also Ingolstadt does not make the RS3 and TTRS, they are made in Hungary along with all other MQB Audi cars.

    ha good catch, true!

Still, the distribution would be the same across all months.

To say there is unlikely to be 3000 rs3 sales in one whole year across the world is small minded. It will be by far the highest selling RS car, and given they seem to have 1.9 million sales a year its almost a given that it will probably be even more than that.

If 1% of those people bought an APR tune, which is 300 cars, you are looking at at least a quarter million in sales for APR... so this is all not a stretch to imagine its important for them.

Something else I found for 2016...

"The entire R and RS family exceeded the 20,000 unit mark for the first time with strong gains of 18 percent to around 20,200 automobiles. "

I can't argue against changing launch setup - which is why with our DSG tune we typically allow you to have 3 launch RPM's you flash at the dealer (you choose them). AS for octane, we're working on full map switching for 91, 93, 100, 104 and E85.
is it possible to do a custom map if i want to run 93 fuel + meth injection? do i need to log by the APR App? or i can run the 100 oct map on pump93 + meth?

We’ve never supported meth. Too many risks and pitfalls in our experience. If that’s what you’re after, I don’t think we’re the tuner for you.

I think flex is possible. We’ll start with full e85 (suppporting summer / winter blends).

Well done to all involved in this accomplishment. Not many factory cars with this little displacement and stock engine/transmission; can achieve these times.

    Outstanding.
