Do I have a short or bad module? Please help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Was told today by a cop today that my rear license plate lights are out and one reverse light is out. Gave me a warning and went on his way. I picked up new bulbs and just tried installing them with no change. The bulbs that were in the car look good except for one. The Amber bulb looks like it burnt but the wire in the middle is intact. Here is the faults from the log. Someone PLEASE help out. Thanks in advance 🤞👍

You have a short somewhere in you system. If you were careful about reading those faults and had an electrical diagram of that area, you could trace it to the culprit. I would guess it's in the trunk lid area since those are giving you trouble as well as being an area that is subject to harsh vibrations/forces from the lid closing.

Been searching online for diagrams and only came across this one so far. Guessing I should start by checking to see if I'm getting power to the bulb sockets? Sorry if I sound like a noob

First off unless you are blowing fuses you don’t have a “short”.
I’d check wires that feed those circuits - if they go through a hinge and are subject to bending they could have broken where they flex.
If I can't fix it I can fix it so nobody can fix it.

Wanted to post an update on the problem I was having. It ended being a loose connection. I bought a replacement central control module off eBay for $15. I found the loose connection once I went to go unplug the brown connector. It wasn't clicked in.
Thank you for the help. 👍

I remember pulling the taillights and seeing some minor corrosion on the connectors, was similar to the B5 generation issues with the twist-lock style bulb sockets. The C6 I "forget" but has another type of socket on the tail housings that cause intermittent light inop issues.

I just ground away lightly with a pick any surface corrosion before it pitted/corroded both sides.

I was wondering, how did you pull the trunk apart to look for loose connection? I have the same exact issue. my taillights all of a sudden went out. both of them that light the license plates. do I take apart the trunk from inside the lid? or do I pull apart the panel outside of the trunk that holds the license plate lights? thanks@
