    OEM RS6 wastegate options

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a set of OEM BW RS6 turbos that have been modified by chopping up some donor ko3s. The waste gates from the ko3s were not in good shape, so I am looking for a reliable waste gate actuator option. Please let me know if anyone has any experience with the non-oem options listed below and what it would take to make them work for this application:

    TiAl Universal:
    http://tialsport.com/index.php/tial-...tes/154-mvi2-5

    Turbosmart Universal (Referenced here):
    http://www.turbosmartdirect.com/Prod...PSI-Black.html

    Mamba 2.7t Direct Fit:
    https://shop.mambatek.com/product.sc?productId=2817

    OEM BW Ko3 actuators:
I would like to go with brand new actuators if I go this route, so not from donor ko3s. Anyone know of a retailer that sells just the actuators? Part Numbers?

    Thanks!

SRM just came out with an upgraded wg option for their K24s. Don’t remember if they’re turbosmart or Tial, but I’m sure you could get a set from them. Comes with brackets and all.

I along with Cinesnow developed a setup to use the Turbosmart actuators on K24s (before Sean had his setup available). What we learned is you cannot use brackets designed for K24s on OEM BorgeWarner RS6 turbos, they will not fit properly.

It's not off by much, but the brackets and actuators won't quite line up on BW RS6 housings if made for K24 and vice versa. Castings are ever so slightly different.

I've got the Mamba setup but have only stuck them on some K04 hybrids so far, not in use yet.

I don't recommend a K03 wastegate if you plan to operate in the mid 20's boost level.

I’ve decided to give the mambas a try, due to the fact that a custom Frankenstein setup utilizing some of the higher end universal actuators will end up being north of $500 after being modified by apikol.

I’ll report back here on the mambas once they are in.

Bumping with info for future reference. These arrived in about 5 days from Taiwan- pretty quick. The quality looks and feels pretty damn good. We replaced the stock spring with the black spring to set the crack pressure for my rs6 turbos easily with no issues. I will probably have to shave down one of the brackets a bit for mounting clearance, but otherwise all good.

Once they are running and tuned, I’ll update again.

With mine the black spring cracked open at 12psi, what were you seeing?

FlyboyS4, how do you like the Momba wastegates? They functioning properly without needing adjustments?

I tried the Mamba wg’s myself and found that they liked to stick and were inconsistent with opening and closing at spec’d psi. Would love to hear if anyone else had success with these though cause I think I am going back to standard 1 bar wg’s.

yea, thats what i worry about. not sure the tial or turbosmarts are any different on the rs6. seems plenty of them on k24 but without proper alignment on the bw rs6 these are probably hit and miss perhaps?

That's what we found in terms of making the wastegates fit on the K24s and being slightly off on RS6s, and vice versa. It comes down to the actual housing itself as the K24 is a copy of the RS6 housing but is slightly off.

What were people commonly doing for these when they were popular? My car came with BW RS6s, I've never had the motor out to get a good look at what WGs were used, I always assumed they were the WGs from the RS6s but now this thread has me curious. I'm re-tuning but with the old EPL tune on the car, it was hitting 26psi if that makes any difference.

On my old RS6 setup i used OE Bosch M 16psi gates. These are NLA now as i have heard.
K03 are bit weak, but OE K04 gates would be reliable option.

Are you sure it was the wastegates and not the flapper sticking on the exhaust housing? Did you swap gates and fix the issue?
    What turbos?

Yes, I’m positive it was the gates and not the flappers. Swapped gates and issue disappeared. It would be great if Flyboy or anyone else who ran these would chime in as well, cause maybe it was just me. I even took them apart and couldn’t really see any defects, but the sticking still occurred at random.

Just the traditional sealed diaphragm wg’s. Think the ones I’m using are of the 1 bar variety
