Is there a route to go K04 cheaper than JHM?
Really looking to go bigger turbo for my B7 and can’t seem to find anything anywhere!

There’s probably something cheaper. But is there something cheaper that’s worth buying?

You could always buy the turbo and see if you can source the injectors and high pressure fuel pump upgrade on the used market if you’re patient. I found some APR injectors new but never installed and saved 300 bucks over buying their kit. You could also go the eBay route and buy some unproven turbo with unknown product support too.

What’s nice about their kit is that it’s complete and they will take care of you if issues pop up.

Toss in a IHI k03 with a billet compressor (soon I’ll have these available too) there a bit larger then a oem K03 and should be find on stage 1 and 2 tunes without breaking the bank. I personally have a rai k0R-get turbo to rebuild and will be up for sale soon. This and I am looking for parts for a k04 build too.

The K0R-GT runs great on JHM's K04 software btw.

I almost went that route when I was running it. That's definitely a solid little turbo.

There’s more to picking a turbo than peak HP. Unless you go to the track every week, there’s no need for you to go big turbo. A K04 is about perfect for a street driven car. A K04 on a 2.0T makes close to what a GT28rs kit can do on a 1.8T and the torque to HP ratio is about even. It spools quick and has torque. You drive with torque, not HP.

I think you’re looking at this the wrong way. Quality brand turbos cost what they cost. If money is an issue you can always roll the dice with an eBay clone turbo for 400 dollars and hope it lasts you a year.

I say pick the turbo by what is best for your driving style, not what peak HP number it claims. And where it gets expensive is the add ons you need to go stage 3, not really the turbo itself. My turbo was only 1600. The other 4400 was spent to support it. Exhaust, intercooler, clutch, mounts, injectors, tune, fuel pump upgrade, etc. The cost of the turbo is small compared to the rest.

You have the wrong car then... beyond stage 2+, these are expensive cars to modify.

Don’t forget the cost of preventive maintenance prior to performance. No sense in spending all that money, just to have the timing chain tensioner crap out or cam follower grind through to the cam, etc. on you a month later.....

OP, you can only pick two: Fast, Cheap and Reliable.

After I put in my new fuel pump, I think all I have left for major components to replace is my oil pump and cam tensioner. Lol

My car is paractically brand new now. 😀
