Does TriboTEX really work? Engine Oil additive

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently came across this product in an ad on instagram. It looks way to good to be true. If not I feel it may be a good additive for our cars due to oil consumption and high millage for some. I was just curious if anyone has some incite on this topic or may have used it before.

my personal opinion . additives are a multi million dollar business and have had their day, with good quality oil and gasoline additives are not required and do more harm than good.

Hmmm interesting stuff. I need to look into this more. I was previously using Liqui Moly Ceratec but ran into cold weather issues with it. The stuff worked great and both quieted my engine and helped with oil consumption BUT I took a road trip to Lake Placid NY this past winter (-13 with a windchill of -30) and the Ceratec turned into mud. Actually coasted my oil pressure sensor and make my pressure light flash on the dash.

I would usually agree with you on additives that are not needed if the car is taken care of with quality oil and gas. But what if the car was previously abused. Maybe this is the answer to repairing damage that has been done to used cars. I haven't seen any other additive compare on he market as of yet but I also would like to see some tests and studies before I would even commit to using this on my own car. Especially for $100

That sounds terrible! Well ideally they are the same thing. I think the only difference is the way it bonds to the metal surface and hardness of the substance. Yet I am still unsure about this product until there is some concrete evidence it is successful.

yeah maybe its just me , and I admit I'm a bit of a cynic, but I don't think additives can " repair" anything.

I'm very leary of these types of additives. They don't offer an explanation of how it works (mechanistically). They just make phenomenological statements - saying that it's comprised of nanoparticles which go to points of friction. This isn't good enough. And I don't see any definitive blinded scientific comparitive studies referenced. Maybe they exist but I haven't seen them yet. What is the mechanism by which it reduces oil consumption?? $100 buys a lot of top-up oil. I remain skeptical.

I agree, this is why I'm hesitant to buy it at all. Just waiting for some better information and statistics on the product. Maybe in a few years?

" nano technology " is the modern term that replaced " snake oil" ...

unless they have little nano bots that can spatter weld cams that fill pitting and regrind. I'm going to go with its just a fancy lubricant that will upset the original additive package in your oil.

    Whoa that's a major issue.

I just started using ceratec. Here's my reasoning. Parts that get actively lubed by oil pressure are well protected. But, parts that get lubed passively by oil splashing on them, dripping or dipping might not always get proper lubrication. For example the can chain tensioners or the HPFP follower. Ceratec might help with those. I will run it in the fall and avoid it in the winter.
