new 2018 Q7 - what rim brand are best bang for your buck?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I had a 2012 S4 and then went to a 2017 BMW M2 and now with the addition of a 1 year old to the family I am making the painful decision to get rid of the M2 and pick up a 2018 Q7. the only thing with 99% of Audi's that bugs me is their rims are horrible. Every choice offered on the Q7 doesn't work with the daytona grey black optics S line that I went with. It sorely needs a black wheel option and Audi doesn't offer it. So I want to replace the rims but don't want to spend $2000 either. Is there a quality rim brand that people recommend over others in the $1000-1400 a set range that has some decent style options with decent weight and quality construction?

The new Q has a very high load rating and with it's change to a 5x112, unfortunately choices are limited and most are not in the 1000-1400 range.

What size are you interested in? 20, 21 or 22"?

If that's the case, have you considered modifying the stock ones? Powder-coat?

How about some 20" Hartmanns? $1,480-set before shipping, low pressure cast construction, load rated for the Q7 and uses OEM Audi centercap 4B0 601 170 A 7ZJ. The -GS and -MA will accept the OEM Q7 bolts, the -MA:M will need different bolts.

Hey @Skylar@Achtuning, are those RFT compatible now? Awesome news if so.

Runflat tires can be mounted to our wheels but may lose the ability to be run with no tire pressure. This depends somewhat on the specific brand and model of tire though. Historically, runflat tires have relied on a wheel design with a larger than normal inner bead area to keep the sidewall of the tire in place even without air pressure in the tire. Hartmann wheels have a conventionally sized inner bead. More recently it seems some tire brands have started marketing runflats that don't necessarily need a large inner bead. Unfortunately I do not know if the OEM runflats on the Q7 require a large inner bead to maintain the runflat capability.

Are you talking about the 10-spoke 20" OEM wheels? They aren't that bad. My wife likes them, won't let me change them. Someone on here changed the tires and put them on a Q5 or SQ5. It looked pretty good.

yeah fair enough, rims are one of those super subjective things. and i could maybe see those working on some colors with the chrome accents but mine as a daytona grey with black optics they really stick out and the coloring just looks bad imo. Those hartmann hrs6 would look really slick.

Q7 BO wheels here are so sweet- 21" Audi Sport 5 arm twin spoke.
yes those are awesome that you guys get with grey machined look - they are not even offered here. our 21 inch option is bright silver which while the rim itself is nice the bright silver is not.

I did the Hartmann above with the proper load rating. Load rating is not a thing to mess with or skimp on. :/

Congrats! I got one, too. However, I did manage to keep the "other" one, as well (17 M2). I have a 5 yr old and he loves it!
