MMI reboot while driving

So, 3 times this month I have had my music start to cut-out while driving, it usually persists for 2-3 minutes and eventually the car just reboots mmi (folds screen up) on it’s own. Just curious if this happens to anyone else or if I should be planning a trip to the dealer sometime soon. It does seem to work fine after coming up but I’ve had the car about a year and it has only been doing this recently.... makes me think I’m about to get more use out of the warranty

Try 'resetting your MMI. This typically helps clear some of the gremlins that pop up occasionally.

To reset it, hold the 'menu' button, the center console button, and the 'northeast' silver button all at the same time. Your fingers will make a diagonal line from bottom left to top right.

Kind of like a control-alt-delete maneuver.

No, it's the same. VCDS might reveal codes stored for any issues that would be causing it to reboot like that.

You say "music", your talking radio function or Bluetooth media streaming from your phone?

Mmi updates are available, I have had two on my 2016 S6. Dealers by me are hesitant to apply them for issues they can't reproduce so if possible, figure out how to make it happen on command.

Did you have to pay for the updates, or were you able to get the dealer to do them for free?

Nobody works for free, especially at the dealer and even if it's warranty work.

Bluetooth streaming.

It could be Bluetooth issues or MMI then. Somebody else posted similar problems and it was BT related, FYI. And I'd bet on that too. Did you change your phone recently? That person had trouble with his new Android phone on a 2016 car. An update solved it, so that's good news for you :).

I doubt it’s the Bluetooth connection or the phone, idk why the car would reset itself when the fault isn’t in its system, iPhone 7 for the record

An issue I’ve run into is that MY2016 and later cars have the MOST150 fiberopric system, which has a 2way flow of information that includes a security feature- if the feedback isn’t what’s expected from the other components, the MMI will shut down. This could be due to an issue with the fiberoptics cable/s, or the oem amplifier. Mine has been shutting down because I removed the oem amp and the digital interface i have in it’s place isnt quite mimicking the OEM amp closely enough yet. Not your issue, but just pointing out that the issue could be with a downstream component in your sound system

I had an issue with my 2016 S6 exactly as described. The issue only got worse as time went on. The key here is that the screen went down too, I'm curious if you notice that your center display does not shut off, but the digital information is not fed to it, when this happens as well. My issue ended up being the cable that connects the MMI system inside behind the dash board, there's like a C-clamp or something that fell off, and then as the car goes over bumps, the port cord slowly falls out or loose connection, and disconnects causing what appears to be a reset.

Thanks- my issue seems to be fixed with a firmware update to my digital interface- taking the car to the dealer would have been plan B. Good to know updates are available- thank you

My issue was primarily with call audio but i had issues with media too. Update is better but i noticed today I was on a call and had a second ring in, the radio started playing for half a second and then call retuned. Overall it's 1000x better than it was and is now usable.

Interesting, I hope that's not the cause as I really hate it when the dealer has to mess with trim panels... I don't remember the first two times but it did happen after a small bump this latest time.

Andre, this sounds much like an issue I am having. MMI sound frequently cutting out and not returning until the power cuts. It started happening not long after two things changed: I got the CarPlay added, and I upgraded the audio from stock Bose. I’ve assumed that the former was the cause ... but it sound like it could be the latter.

Is the the digital interface you reference the Zen-V? If so, how have you worked around this problem?
