So I enabled efficiency mode in my 2012 Audi A6 through OBDEleven and I was wondering if anyone knows what it does. it appears to just limit the throttle input and I can definitely notice a difference in my mpg/how the car performs but I wanted to know if anyone knows exactly what it does.

It reduces power and throttle response. Not safe IMO and you get same miles out of tank as in Dynamic/Auto

Effectively cuts boost to 0, limits downshifting and how aggressive it is, shifts are more conservative to reduce fuel consumption. Is it unsafe? No. Will you see any tangible benefit vs Auto mode? Also no.

It's basically a higher power output valet mode IMO. It would be a good mode for a learner at first who isn't used to the car.
    2013 A6 3.0T - Slightly better than poverty package.

    Past:
    2009 A4 2.0T Avant - Totaled
    2000 A4 1.8T - Sold
    1999 Millenia S - Sold, though it should've been crushed 'n cubed
1997 A4 1.8T - Totaled, repaired, sold years later better than before
1990 Maxima - Totaled from hail dents
    1987 Maxima - Sold
1986 Golf Diesel - Rusted and fell apart

There's no way you get the same mileage from Auto vs Dynamic.
Has anyone proved this out by any chance, cause if so I'm driving in Dynamic 100% if the time

I use efficiency mode on the highway, generally with cruise control enabled. It is slow to engine brake on descents and tends to lose set speed on ascents, in order to increase fuel efficiency. I personally switch into sport mode on ascents in order to maintain the set speed, and will also switch to sport mode if I need to pass other traffic rapidly on two-way roads. I have not systematically compared Auto vs. Efficiency in these cruise control situations, but anecdotally probably eek out a couple extra mpg.

Not sure what Arslàán is smoking but I want some of that...

Have had it enabled on my 2012 since 2013 and use it frequently. As others have said the throttle response is dialed way back which is good for my lead foot. I would say any small mpg improvement would come from that (the car babysitting your driving habits) as opposed to any 'process' or mapping that the engine would use compared to comfort mode.

If I recall, the supercharger on the 3.0T is RPM controlled to off below ~2200RPM with some sort of clutch. So ECO mode tries really hard to keep it below that, as opposed to "cutting" boost to 0.

Did you do that in a 3.0 or 2.0 a6? Have you noticed any improvements in gas mileage? I have a heavy foot(I love speed) but man in the winter mpg kills me. I get around 12 in city and 17 highway on a good day.

3.0T with a stage 1 ecu tune. I don't normally run in that mode but from the few times I have my mpg did slightly increase. One thing to note though is I'm fairly sure the only reason why it did increase is because I was slightly more conscious of my driving habits while driving in that mode. Regardless it couldn't hurt for you to give it a shot.
