    Metric only socket set

I forgot my trunk socket on the street while moving. It was a nice older mastercraft maximum that had a good variety of 1/4 and 3/8 6 point sockets and a few stubby wrenches. Really sucks because I added a bunch of items over the years to make it a complete B6 set in a very small package.

I looked at Canadian tire, Lowes, Home Depot and princess auto and most sets dont fit my specific requirements to replace my old set needs.

    - 6 POINT
    - Compact case
    - Good mix of deep and shallow witht from 4mm to at least 19mm
    - Metric hex
    - Some torx, I can add my own T55 if it only comes with smaller torx
    - Some wrenches, preferable stubby. Not critical, I could carry a set on the side.

Are there any metric only sets available? Other than hammering on, I have no use for SAE. This is just a trunk set, it does not need to be a complete 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 set.

Read this last night, was thinking about it today. I don't believe there are any metric only sets you can purchase from Canadian Tire/PA/box stores. If I were you, I would get a small tool bag from Princess Auto, and fill it with Tekton sockets from Amazon. They're excellent quality and you can get a set of Deep 6-pt and Shallow 6-pt metric, 3/8", 1/4", 1/2" and then a Tekton or PA ratchet in each of these sizes. You should be under $100 for everything. The Tekton sockets have a lifetime warranty and are about 60% of the box store prices and the same quality as Mastercraft Maximum. I tend to hold the latter as being excellent occasional-mechanic quality.

There's a Mastercraft set in my trunk, the larger set with 1/4"-1/2" ratchets and associated sockets. It was under $100 on sale, but you're right most of the time those SAE's are dead weight.

A nice case that all sockets have a spot in is a must. I never lost a socket this way... Ultill I lost the whole kit. I am surprised the German oriented parts suppliers don't provide something.

Probably better that they don't. Tools don't have the same margins as auto parts.

Are you against those socket organiser sticks that hold the set by the drives?

I got a Stanley 229 set for $130. The 1/2 sockets are 12 point. The torx set is good for Audi. It also has metric hex inserts. Good set overall but kinda more than I was looking for with the 1/2 drive stuff.

AliExpress has some killer metric only sets.

The screw driver is wasted space IMHO but great otherwise. Kinda pricey, but on par with most sets.

That style of socket organizers don't hold the sockets that well. Not a bad idea though. I could have one rail for one for 1/4, one for 1/2, one for deeps, and one for hex/torx.
