    RS7 or S7 - buying advice

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I am looking at (2) cars - 2015 RS7 and 2016 S7. The RS7 is not certified and has 35k on it while the S7 has 19k on it and has a certified warranty. Interiors are the same from what I can tell so trying to get to deciding if it is worth giving up the certified warranty for the RS? Both are about the same price and from Audi dealers. I know with a Stage 1 tune, the S7 can get some increase in power - not that it really is needed I guess - but I am more wondering if the 4.0 motor has issues that would necessitate the need for the certified warranty.

You can get an aftermarket warranty and not need to worry about modifying the car.

RS7 is far superior to the S7. Go for it!

I, too, would get the RS7. Just on an entirely different level.

Just be cognizant that the typical maintenance costs—like brakes—are way more than the S7.

There’s a thread here that talks about the brake costs for the RS7 and it’s eye-opening.

I'm pretty sure no one on this forum (or in the world for that matter) is going to tell you to get the S7. That is by no means a stab against S7's but... you only live once my man.

If you’re you’re going to mod the S7 than the certification is moot. Go for the RS7.

The S7 is a great car, but the RS7 is much more special. I see S7 all the time. I have never seen another RS7 in person since I bought my car. I saw one about 3 years ago. The RS7 is just an....RS7. If that isn't important to you, the S7 is going to be priced better for what you get initially although the RS cars seem to depreciate slower and hold value over the S variety. If the RS7 is a 2015 and under 50,000 miles, you can still get it CPO'd.

If you were going to go full on crazy modding, the S7 might be better just because of the initial premium you pay for the RS7. Granted there are some things you get with the RS7 the S7 will just not ever have, but its pretty minimal if you're going full stage 3 on the S7.

If you can afford it the RS7 is just THE car to get for Audi Sedans.

Great points. I've had my RS7 for about a year and have only been very happy with it. Now that I think about it I've never seen another one since I got mine. The only time I can remember seeing one was two years ago and that very well may have been the original owner of my car.

Especially in that blue color! I only see white, and black Audi S7 and RS7 ever. There was a Nardo Grey one at a dealer but I've never seen in on the road. That's an interesting color.

I tired to trade my A7 for an S7 and luckily the deal fell through and I got my Nardo RS7. Couldn’t be happier and just dumb luck that I didn’t land with a higher mileage beat up S7. Now it was a lot more money but that was ok too.

Love my car and spend a lot of time in it so it’s well worth it.

This :-). My thoughts exactly. The RS7 should have factory warranty left so you'll at least be covered by that for any issues early in your ownership. You could also get the Audi dealer to CPO the RS7--they'll add on a few thousand dollars though which is going to be similar to aftermarket warranty costs.

Before I bought by '14 S6, I got really hung up on wanting a CPO for peace of mind (and I had a whole tranny replaced on my previous BMW under CPO), but ended up getting a car that had about 7 months of factory warranty left. My car ended up being flagged as tuned in Audi's database anyway, so powertrain warranty is void already. I'm at stage 2 now, and have been since a week after I bought the car :-). Get the RS!

What tune did you use to get flagged by Audi to void warranty?? You didn’t flash back to stock ?

The car had an APR tune on it previously, but had been flashed back to stock when I bought it. It was flagged from previous service out of state though. Turned out to be an ok deal because I got the Indy dealer to get it fully serviced at the dealer and then pay to get the tune reapplied (stage 2, with APR downpipes that I didn't even know were there).

Having owned a S7 before upgrading to the RS7, I can honestly say it was without a doubt the best decision I have ever made with car ownership. While I absolutely loved my S7, my RS7 just took that love to another level. Someone said you only live once and that was exactly why I did it too. No regrets whatsoever.
