    Pinch Weld Jack adapter

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm struggling big time with these pinch welds.

I got a nice adapter, but it's too big and rocks on my current floor jack. I'm looking for something like the following for my floor jack:
    https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Bla...T83H55YSXEHKDW

The problem is, it looks like the size of the "slot" is too shallow for our pinch welds. But the nice thing is, the floor jack pictured is the same type as the one I have.

Anyone know if the linked adapter will work? Or if not, anyone know a deeper slotted version for this type of floor jack?

    Thanks!

I didn’t have issues with mine from Pelican Auto parts. Unsure of the part number though.

Thanks you guys, but as you can see, the floor jacks are different than mine. The flyinmiata one might work?

Check out the photo in my original amazon link. My floor jack, for some reason, has a way smaller contact point.

Check out the Protect 1006 and 1007 at Pure Motorsports. The dimensions are listed at their website here. On my AC floor jack, I'm using the 1007, so I had to do a little dremeling on the pad to fit the AC's lift pad.

I used a hockey puck and a sawzall. Ghetto but works great. Cut the slot width and depth to fit exactly.

Nice stuff but the OP needs to replace his cheap jack before investing big bucks into nice stands :)

I have two jacks: a nice big one with a proper pinch weld pad, and a small one like yours I take to the track. When using the small one, I just locate that small pad just inside the pinch weld. I’ve never had any problems.

When I jack up the front I use the control arm. Where the control arm meets the frame of the car. I've never had a problem using this and I never have to worry about bending the crap out of my pinch welds.

I tried that for a while. Cut a groove into the hockey puck, but after a few lifts there were small cracks propagating thru the remaining section of the puck. Also, this puts the weight of the car on the pinch weld, whereas the commercially available adaptor pads, (like the one from PureMS that I eventually bought) actually transfer the load of the car from the chassis on either side of the pinch weld, leaving the pinch weld itself unloaded (i.e. the groove between the pads is deep enough that the pinch weld doesn't bottom out).

Somewhat related - some of the undercoating on my pinch welds have started falling off. Any idea what I should use to touch it up? The dealer has no clue and just said to grab whatever is at the auto store.

Undercoating would be the likely choice

Yeah I get it, but I thought Audi used some sort of wax based product instead of rubber.

I don't have a link for the jack pad I use since it came from a local shop, but I just used these when doing the springs on my wife's Q5:

    https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Worked great with the only challenge being that using the pinch weld spot as a jack point as well as the jack stand point makes for a tight squeeze.

Is anybody able to fit a low profile jack on the pinch weld and still have enough room next to it to place a jack stand? If so, could you please link me to the jack you use? Thanks!

BTW I use these pinch weld adapters and they seem to work pretty well. I need to move on from the spare tire jack tho.

You can jack beyond the bare metal pinch weld, that's what I do. I use a low profile jack on the fabric like stuff just to the right/left of the exposed metal area. Photos of my combo, loves these jack stands super stable and safe

Totally agree on the stability of the Esco jack stands. 6000lb capacity and very well constructed. Got mine from Pelican Parts.

OK seems like I might be the only one with a floor jack with such a small contact point. I didn't buy it out of cheapness, it's just what I've had since 1998 (seriously). It's worked great, until I got an Audi...

I guess my current adapter will work as long as I just get another floor jack. I just assumed this was standard, but probably not.

Definitely need to pick up some adapters. For those who are resting the car on the control arm, or using the control arm to jack the car up, do you notice flex in the bushing? Wouldn't this put unnecessary pressure on the bushing?

You get what you pay for, it's a good jack for the money. I've had mine for 4-5 years, it's starting to leak a bit.
