Test fitment of 275/30/19's on 19x9 wheels

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had a chance to test fit my 275/30/19's that I kept when my S4 was totaled. The tires are Bridgestone RE-11's that I intend on using for HPDE's and Track days. I tried with a set of 19x9.5 wheels but they were just too wide going to a 9" wheel (which is still acceptable for a 275 section width tire) pulled the sidewalls in just enough.

The wheels are 19x9 Enkei RSM-9 wheels with a 50mm offset. I went that route so I could use some small spacers to tailor the fitment. Using a 3mm spacer on the front and a 5mm on the rear its a snug fit but everything clears. I'll be putting camber plates on the front shortly so that will only help. Currently my car is not lowered, I may do a slight drop if I upgrade to the MSS springs at which time I'll have to watch the small plastic piece mounted to the back of the rear wheel well.

The good news is that once I wear these out I'm confident that a set of 265/30/19 Toyo R888R tires will fit with no issues!

    Thanks for this!

For your setup at front, what do you think the max thickness spacers to have no rub?

Without the camber palates 3-5mm is the max. the 3mm spacer is the minimum, it's close to the strut on the inside but it does clear, the 5mm starts to push the tire close to the fender. Once I get the camber plates installed and set if for 2.5 degrees negative it will be able get more clearance in the front and not worry about the poke. I'm NOT doing camber plates just to run wide tires, I'm doing them strictly for track performance. If I have movement of the tire in that area something has gone terribly wrong

With the 9" wheel it's just under 10" of rubber on the road...Can't wait for the weather to break and to get it out for a track day. Along with the camber plates, an H&R rear sway bar and, hopefully, the water/meth kit will be on as well when I take it out.

I got the Ground Control simply due to the fact that they can be adjusted without pulling the strut and don't require cutting the fender for access.

That's good to hear. But Toyo doesnt make 265/30/19. They make 265/35/19. They do have 265/30/19 in R888R, but they are not XL rated :-/
Which is why, I went with 265/35/18, in RE-71R.

If you look at the actual load capacity of the tires they are within 80lbs (1356 vs 1279 lbs) In speaking with Tirerack and other dealers they all had no issues running the Toyo's. I was thinking of the RE-71's but my hesitation is when running 20-25 minute sessions at a track like Road America, if I were doing AutoX the RE-71 would be tops on my list.

Yeah, i ran r888, in 255/35/18 on my RS5, which is 600 pounds heavier than the RS3. Did not have issues, but was warned to be careful of overheating. They did get pretty high in temp, around 190-210*f. So keep an eye on them, and you should be ok.

I went with RE-71R because I will run these on as the daily set. I drive maybe 400 miles a month, other than track days. So mostly track days, and I don't want to lug tires around (Nor. California proximity to 3 great tracks FTW :D )

You do have a few nice tracks by you I'm "stuck" with Road America as my home track Considering it was names as one of the tracks as part of the potential F1 spin off it ain't too shabby...

Regarding tire temps I use a pyrometer and always check the core temp (not just surface temps being that I was hitting just under 150 on the long straights at Road America I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to monitoring my tires. The temps you mentioned are actually in the range of where the R888R should be run.

    • Operating Temperature: 160°-220° F
    • Hot Inflation Pressures: 32 to 38 PSI
    • Camber: -1° to -3°

Yup. 100% aware that the temps are within range. Use a pyrometer as well to get inside/middle/outside temps of each tire, after each run. Just saying, keep an eye on it. On hotter days at Laguna Seca or Thunderhill, they get up there. My rotors on the other hand, at Thunderhill, they'd get up to 900*F. Had to build custom scoops. Where as a Sears point, they would go to 450'ish.

Not sure I understand the question so I'll try to answer...With the 9.5's the section width was almost 11" so I went to the 9" wheels to pull the sidewalls in a bit more.

Rotor temps are another issue and the reason I'll be running the Girodisc fronts when I get out to Road America. I've cooked plenty of brakes at RA. I'm going to be installing the scoops I had on my S4 that mount to the tie rod (came off of Porsche Macan).

The top view of the front fender looks like a perfectly flush fitment. I don’t see any poke at all. 👍🏻

I had a track day last week and there were no issues or rubbing with this combination. I did swap the spacers and ran the 5mm up front and the 3mm in the rear.
