How to load suspension on a lift?

I’m about to tackle front control arm replacement, and shortly after shocks/springs. AllData has a bracket and tension strap to use to load the suspension with a gearbox jack for when you tighten the CA bolts.. Seems cumbersome, what methods have you guys used?

Can you lower the lift to knee height, then use floor jack at one corner at a time??

Based on a near very bad experience with having the S4 on a lift, jacking one corner and having the jack slip causing the suspension to release and the car to almost come off the lift and crush me, just be very careful. My mistake was needing a block of wood to get the travel I needed. If I were to do it again I would lower until a little bit of weight was on the other tires and use the jack on the one corner and go really slow...and no block of wood.

To get proper ride height I measured from the top of the fender to the middle of the hub.

I've used an under hoist stand under the hub to simulate the load.

This is my nightmare. AllData was very clear about the possibility of an accident without the specific apparatus.

But these are all good ideas.
