This discussion about floor mats just reminded me of a funny incident that happened when my Q was just a day or two old. You guys would get it, but it's hard to explain car-related OCDs to non-car people.
A friend's wife who was tagging along with me and my wife for lunch was pi$$ed when I refused to let her ride in my new car because I hadn't ordered the new floor mats yet

. We took the wife's allroad instead, as if even adults couldn't be trusted to not ruin the carpet floor (which btw was covered with factory carpet mats plus temp. paper mats from the dealership) during a 2-mile drive! In my defense though, it was winter, and there was some snow and salt on the ground
Back to the topic, OP, I think the design is harmless yet functional. If you don't like it, have you considered luxury diamond-stitched mats like these? I'm sure you can find more vendors on Amazon, Google or eBay.

I think they are a bit much for my 'lowly' Q5, but would consider them more seriously if I had an S/RS/6/7/8 or any of the other luxury land yachts.
