    VIN decoder with options list?

    Hi guys,

Shopping for an S5. I'm basically covering everything east of the Mississippi. I am currently undecided between an S5 and a Cayman S. I use the same VIN decoder for both the Audis and the Caymans located here:

    https://www.vindecoderz.com/

When I enter a Porsche VIN into this tool, I get a complete build sheet for the car - all of the installed options, colors, and the original sticker price. This is a great shopping tool as I am looking for certain options.

When I enter an Audi VIN I get none of this. Basically year, make and model.

I also tried the one over at AudiWorld.com and same deal. You definitely get a lot more info on that one, but it's just a list of standard equipment. I can get that info from a Car & Driver review. It's so close though. You go to "Colors" and it just lists all the colors available for that year. It appears to list the build sheet, but when I enter a VIN of a car I know has B&O, Drive Select and Sport Diff, none of that shows up. But at least I know it has power windows.

Is there some other VIN decoder out there that will give me a fairly complete build sheet so I can see what installed options a car I'm interested in has, so I don't have to rely on a Craigslist seller's word from 500 miles away? I KNO WUT I HAV.

    Thanks,
    Darel

Other than craigslist, are you trying other, more legit car-buying websites? I just bought a C7 from Wisconsin. If I didn't pull the trigger on this one, my next choice would have been one in Vegas.

Regarding VIN, AoA can actually decode the VIN for you if you ask nicely enough, but it is usually a day turnaround.

Yes, of course, but to be honest I find dealers know way less about the cars they are selling than a private party. I have saved searches on every used car site on the internet that I check daily, but sometimes it's a pain in the ass. You can't search for what you really want, you have to go through every ad. I can select "6-spd manual transmission" and get a dozen results that when I scroll through the pictures I see two pedals. They only list standard options. You would be really, really lucky to find an ad on Cars.com that had "Audi Drive Select" called out, whether the car has it or not, and frankly if you found one that lists it, it's probably a private seller. Copy-and-pasting a VIN into a good decoder is quick and easy.

What's AoA? Audi of America? Is that a club or is it actually Audi itself?

    Thanks,
    Darel

OP - did you buy a subscription to VINDecoderz? If so, can you run my VIN?

No, I didn't even realize there was a subscription. I just go to the page and stick a VIN in, but that's the problem, for Audis it doesn't give you any useful information. For Porsches you get the whole build sheet.

For instance go to vindecoderz.com and enter this VIN for a Cayman currently for sale on eBay. There are 2 pages of info. With Audis you don't get that second page, which has all the useful info.

FWIW I have a couple of carfax inquiries left from a recent car hunt. It won't give you a build sheet but will provide history if seller doesn't offer. Would be happy to run for a small donation if needed.

FYI, this is the best one I've found. Gives you the original window sticker.

Oh wow that would be perfect. For some reason I'm getting a PDF error here at work. I'll try it at home. Thanks!

Yeah, doesn't work. Something about the PDF not being the correct format. Darn, that would have been perfect.
