    2010 A5 2.0T common issues/problems?

    Hello everyone,

It has been a while since I have had the pleasure of posting on Audizine. I sold my A6 a while ago and bought a truck. Now that I no longer have a need for a truck, the crappy gas mileage, or the slowness of a truck, I am ready for something a little more fun!

I have been contemplating on getting an A5 for a while, and now that I sold the truck, I finally can.

That being said, are there any common issues I should be aware of? Expensive problems? or just general things to look for?

I have about $12k (or less) to spend, would like something 2010 or newer, and under 120k miles. I know when I had the '05 A6 4.2L, there was the dreaded timing chain issue and want to make sure I don't get myself into another one of those situations. I know I can google it (and I am) but wanted to hear the opinions and problems from people who actual drive and work on them. What issues have you guys had or what advice/knowledge can I gather here?

I am currently looking at this 2010 Audi A5 Quattro Prestige(don't go and steal it now : https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...&modelCode1=A5

Thank you all in advanced for your help!I look forward to working with you all when I finally have an A5!

have car inspected by a shop familiar with the 2.0t engine
verify suspension condition, with focus on the front control arms..

    major items to concerned about:

    -timing chain tensioner....
verify the tensioner has been replaced with the later revision

    -oil consumption.....
    same old saga

    -leaking turbo waste gate

    minor issues:

    -PCV valve
    -diverter valve
-Waste Gate Frequency Control N75 Valve
i recommend these wearable items be replaced with the latest revision

If it is the same engine as the one used on Q5, then I can tell you that the oil consumption issue is in fact true (cost me nearly $2K out of pocket to fix on my wife's Q5) and her car also was maligned with the mechatronic failure (another $2K out of pocket repair).

Thank you for the responses guys.

Is the timing chain tensioner something that is easy to get to? Are their any signs of it wearings or is it more for preventative maintenance?

As far as oil consumption, what is the root cause? Do the rings wear out or are their other, larger, issues that are contributing to this?

I am definitely not afraid to get my hands dirty and have the tools necessary to do most things. However, on the A6, all the timing chains are in the back (as I sure you all know) and it required removal of the engine to get the job done. Are any of the issues you mentioned this large or much larger than a weekend job?

    Thank you again!

I just picked up the same car with 88k from an Audi dealer. I paid a premium because it was from the dealer, the car has only been serviced at the dealer, and all of the weak systems have been addressed, the main one being the oil consumption problems.

Good luck with the purchase, it looks pretty good, and it's a great price.
