DSG Service Procedure, Cost and Interval

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I may consider buying an used B8.5 S4 in the future and just wondering how expensive it is to do the DSG transmission service. Would the DSG service has the same procedures as on a ZF transmission? Procedure would be replace the transmission filter and fluid? How much does a shop charge to do the service? If it involves a very complicated procedures, what shop can really do this except for the dealer?

I know DSG is faster than a 6 speed manual. But it would probably make sense to get a 6 speed manual S4 if the DSG is problematic and expensive to maintain.

DSG service typically costs around 450 dollars give or take. Yes similar to ZF, they replace fluid and 2 filters. I personally dont think just that just because of this service its worth it to get a 6 speed. Clutches for them are expensive as well.

An Audi Dealer will claim this service costs $700+. I got it done at a local independent shop, that does Audi/VW work for about $350. It recommended that it's done at 35k and 70k. ~$400 every 35k miles isn't very much for maintenance and not having to deal with replacing a clutch or shift gears in Denver traffic were worth it for me to get the DSG.

I see the dealer charged $43.83 a liter for the gear oil. You can buy it online for like $30 a liter and then take it with you to the dealer. Saves you like $100.

Thanks for the info everyone. You guys are very helpful. So it is about the same cost of a ZF transmission service. Maybe $100 more on labor.

I drive in mostly stop and go traffic. It takes 30 mins to drive 7 miles with lots traffic lights and cars. So a DSG S4 makes more sense in my case?

The math would have to be done to know the cost per mile of both, but a clutch/flywheel job will set you back 2-3k$..

I did mine through the dealer. They originally quoted me almost $1100 for just the dsg service. I bought the 75k and 85k Audi care for I think $769. Includes the dsg service, two oil changes, brake fluid flush and a couple other things.

Fwiw bought mine from Alfa dealer who didn't know it had Audi care. 35k service according to the dealer should've been 1100-1200. Includes dsg and stuff anybody could do really

I bought the car and the lady didn't have the service done and it was already almost 10k miles over. I priced everything up and It is definitely cheaper to do it but I was feeling lazy

gear oil/filter/gasket alone is close to $250 ~ $300. If the shop only charges around $350, they are making shit or they turn over cars very quickly.
I would say anywhere from $400 to $600 is fair depending on the area. In my city (Portland OR), Euro shops will usually charge ~$100 to $120/hour. JDM shops charged about $80 ~ $95/hour.

Today I was quoted $480 by one shop, and $580 by another. Both locally owned euro specialists.
