    TT Brake Upgrade or BBK?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Wife bought a 2016 TT Roadster last week. I was looking it over and thought the front rotors looked kinda small. I was wondering if there was any larger OE rotor and caliper carrier that could be swapped on, like I did for her A4 Avant? I added S4 rotors and caliper carriers on that and was wondering if something existed for this TT. Can't find much information on anything for it.

The problem with just doing bigger rotors is that you suppose to have the bigger pads and likely because of that you would have to have bigger calipers. You might try the Golf R /S3/TTS or GTI with performance package brakes which I believe they are a little larger than the TT.

So your stock brakes are 12.3" in the front and 11.8" in the rear. The ones that I mentioned from the S3/Golf R/TTS and GTI with performance package are
13.4" in the Front and 12.2" in the Rear.

The Golf R calipers are 1 pot and weigh 19lbs, FYI.

You can almost certainly fit the /R, S3 or TTS brakes onto your TT. I say almost because I know nothing about the stock wheels on the TT. To answer that question I'd probably head over the Vortex and see what wheel setups the /R folks are using.

To your question, OE upgrade or BBK, it depends on what your goals are. If you're just looking to fill out the wheel and make it look sexy, the TTS setup will do you very nicely. In fact, if that's where you want to go I have a set of TTS front calipers I'll sell you cheap, you'll just have rebuild them. :-P . If you desire performance then I would definitely NOT recommend the TTS setup as it's unique to the TTS alone and there's not any aftermarket suppliers at the moment so you're stuck with OE rotors and pads which are, to put it nicely, a tad expensive for the performance they provide. Put another way, for true performance braking you should definitely go with a BBK.

Personally if you are looking for a bbk this is the way to go you could also just get the rotors and a ttrs caliper

We have had a few people finding the weak points in the factory TTS and TTRS Brakes, base model TT is no different. But it depends on what you are using the car for.

You can upgrade to larger and heavier components that will provide better stopping power than the factory setup on your TT. But at what cost. There are great options available for this car in the aftermarket, but it all comes down to your budget and intended use.

If you need anything we are happy to help.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the responses. The car won't be tracked. Looking for something to fill out the space there is with the 19" wheels on it, and also get some better braking performance for daily driving, and the occasional winding road.
I was hoping there might be a way to do this for $500 or under? Some TTS calipers and rotors perhaps? And I'm sure with there'd be a different caliper carrier involved too. A 1 pot caliper isn't going to cut it, not worth the effort.

If you’re not worried about weight, go Golf R or GTI performance pack calipers, lots of pad options and always available on Vortex and mk7 Golf forums. These would do great on the street. You’d be increasing your rotor size from 312mm to 340mm.

The TTS rotors alone will cost you more than $500 new, and I'm guessing the calipers are a lot more than that. The cheapest I could find pads were around $150. So it's a pretty expensive upgrade if you're buying new. That said, a lot people here are tracking their cars and finding the stock setup on the TTS inadequate and upgrading so you might be able to score a front setup on the cheap. I'd offer to sell you mine but the rotors need to be turned and the piston boots burnt to crisp.

I remember a while back someone suggesting the Neuspeed kit as the price was pretty nice, under $2k IIRC. It did meet all my requirements for the track or I might have gone there. Also HPA has a nice kit that I came very close to going with for a little over $2k iirc. Both are obviously more than $500, but they'll work better the OE.
