How is the B&O system in the A3/S3/RS3

Hi, I currently have a b7 avant modded all up but was thinking of possibly going to a RS3 and had a simple question related to the optional B&O sound system.

I read that the new A4 and other bigger audis are offering B&O 3d sound with 19 or more speakers while the 8V cars don't. However, the 8v one does offer 5.1 surround. Having never listened to a B&O system in person, does that mean standard mp3s from my iphone would play in surround sound? Has anyone compared the experience to the 3d sound version in the other cars?

coming from bmw hk system the b&o system sounds better. i would go into your local dealer and listen for yourself. my gf can't tell the difference (other than bass) between standard and b&o when she was looking for a new car, so you may or may not be able to hear the difference in quality. also, garbage in, garbage out. if your mp3's are poorly encoded/compressed it will sound flat no matter what.

I liked how the B&O system sounded but it was just too low for me so I compromised....Left all the speakers in and just added my own power except the bass which I added 2x10" as well as the 2 front tweeters replaced by Focal. I would have not did it any other way!

Where in Virginia are you? I picked up a Catalunya Red with the B&O system earlier this week and you're welcome to listen a bit if we can find a way to meet up. I'm near Charlottesville but travel a little for work.

I'm in the Fairfax area. I have a couple dealers who say they'll tell me when they have a an RS3 in so I can see, but thanks for offering! It's a shame you can't test drive these cars.

Good luck. I agree with the test drive situation.I was able to sit in one at the Arlington dealership. If the sales associate was right, it's owner had already taken delivery but they had a few S3s, so there might be a B&O system there. I'll PM you if I pass by Fairfax in the near future.

the system below the B&O sounded the same to me, for practical puposes it's just fine. I also don't listen to crazy loud stuff so that may be a huge factor. B&O looks awesome though

OEM B&O is awesome - basing that against 2017 BMW m4 with their equivalent upgrade (cant remember name right now) and the factory 2015 s5 stereo.

Honestly, this is probably the best factory stereo I've ever had. Know I've never bought cars over the 100k mark, so I'm sure there is better.

But if you want to know what the sub can do, just put on Method Man - Buscuits (I believe is the track).

I've thought about the JL upgrade people have done, but honestly it's great as it is. Just doesn't get super low freq's.

I just got a 17 with the B&O, it is VERY good for a factory stereo. Very crisp at 3/4 volume and plenty loud. Personally, I think it needs some bass, a big powered sub might be enough.

I had it on my S3 and it was worth every dollar of the $900 option. I loved it, my wife love it and we enjoyed it very much. She listened some salsa music and it didn't distorted much but I listened more hip-hop and I had to turn my bass down a lot. Only when you play deep bass the rear subwoofer sometimes rattles.

The experience that I had on the S3 made it easier for me to order my RS3 with the Virtual cockpit option which off course includes the B&O. My wife's A6 (C7) has a BOSE system and it is not even comparable at all, her system is not loud and it doesn't have the same bass.

The wife drives a 2018 Q5 without B&O and my 2018 S3 has it. Definitely can tell the different at higher volume specially in the low mid range area. I actually get annoyed in the Q and don’t crank it like I do in the S3.
