Anybody has done RS7 ---> S8 ? Or Vice Versa?

Test driving an A8L for a friend a few days ago, spurred me to think about how the ride would be on the S8 vs the RS7.

I was pleasantly surprised by the driving dynamics that being such a huge car, the A8L still had (3.0 engine).

Not that I'm trying to switch out my RS7 - but wondering if anybody on here has went through an S8 and what they have to like / dislike about it.

The S8 would be my favorite 'large' german sedan and I'm absolutely in love with the looks and proportions that they got on such a large car. I'm talking about 2015+ S8 PLUS model.

I have no kids yet, but made me think about possibly how great of transport it would be to carry a family around in 604HP comfort?

Just thinking out loud. Any thoughts and input are welcome!

I would ask the same question in the S8 forum. It is nowhere near as active as this one but I think that might be the audience who will likely have your answer if it doesn't pop up here shortly.

Before I got my RS7, I considered the S8, but from a pure performance person, it’s a bit behind the RS7.

I had the pleasure of driving an S8 at one of Audi's R8 refresh launches....drove it from the hotel to the track which was about 30 minutes away on the highway through mountain passes etc.

Lovely vehicle but not the same as the RS7 imho in terms of performance feel.

If you're looking to step down the performance ladder into something more sedate and luxo-barge cruiser then the S8 is fabulous. It's still ridiculously fast, but it also feels like a much larger vehicle.

For everyday sportiness and fun, definitely the RS7. But do drive one before you decide, you might just love it more.

In terms of carrying around children both will be more than adequate. The S8 will be much more luxurious but your newborn/toddler won't care one bit.

Either one is an epic ride.

No doubt - two cars for different purposes. Just wondering how much tradeoff there is between giving up some performance vs gaining in luxury / cruising aspects.

Yes I'm sure both are great in their own regard. There is something I prefer in both vehicles and nowhere near ready to make the leap into an S8 unless given a major reason to do so (longer freeway commute for added luxury, growing family for adding space, etc).

But something about a big brawly german sedan (not to say that the RS isn't one), inspired by the Transporter movies that has always intrigued me.

Just so you know, kids seats fit just fine in the RS7 ;)

But only seating for four! That's why I went the S6 route vs RS7 (3 kids).

By the time he's on his 3rd kid, he'll be ready for a new car regardless lol

S8 has a real back seat for starters. Kiddies aside, try to sit back there as an adult after positioning driver's seat in regular position. Non starter for me at around six feet having tried it on the showroom floor a couple of times. Having also had the W12 4 seater and having been burned too many times when I needed the fifth seat, I decided never again. I knew something was wrong when we had to keep taking the Q5 instead of an A8L for outings with 5, whether adults or teens or other ages.

I test drove both and considered both:

S8 - love the looks and the car screams luxury inside and out, power plant is of course incredible and APR tune makes it a real beast. Trunk space is limited for a sedan. True rear seating for 3 a plus and headroom is decent. Car drives much smaller than it looks. Exhaust note ok but not real aggressive. Car seems to depreciate at a higher rate from what I was seeing. Overall, car speaks and feels more luxury sedan with sportiness.

RS7 - sport back look is not for everyone, but hatch holds a lot and way more useful than trunk space on S8, power plant and tuning are amazing and dominate, rear seating only for 2 and headroom not all that great, interior is more toward the sport look than pure luxury and car feels even smaller to drive. Exhaust note much more aggressive. Overall look and feel is certainly more sporty and as an RS model the performance focus is more a priority than pure luxury, but this is still a luxury car no questions about it.

After spending time with them, my logical brain said the S8 was the one to go with, but my heart said the RS7 was what I was in love with. Of course love won and like any other love relationship I am going broke spending money on all the mods
2016 Nardo RS7, HRE P107 21x10.5, MPSS, JL Audio sub/amp, VCDS mods, Eurocode sway bars and end links, CF/Alcantra SW, Carbon paddles, tinted windows, VIM enabled, CarPlay enabled, hardwired Escort Max 360, CETE susp module, SRM ECU/TCU tune for E85, DS1, fully built SRM monster on the way!

I love my s8. Absolutely love it. My son is always screaming to go faster. He's 3. The car's apr tuned and will quietly spank a z06 with four adults in it. I once stopped at a red light and had a guy on a crotch rocket shut his bike off to tell me he wasn't ready for that and complement it. I like that it's insanely fast and I love that the general public knows nothing about it. I think they do fear the hatchbacks a bit more. But I love educating them. There will probably be a guy trading in a zl1 tomorrow at Audi of baton rouge. I see more and more demons and hellcats over there in the used lot.
