Audi Shop Near San Mateo for Pre Purchase Inspection and Baseline Dyno

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Everyone,

I found a well sorted B5 S4 Stage 3 which I am very excited to purchase and I would like to have a shop perform a PPI along with a baseline dyno to verify power claims. Is there any place near San Mateo that can perform these tasks?

Be sure to find out what type of dyno the car was measured on previously. Going from something like a Dynojet to a Mustang will make you cry tears.

The car was last on a dyno at 034's Mustang Dyno. I ended up buying the car and have an appointment at Griffin in Berkley for a baseline on Tuesday 3/20/2018. This does feel MUCH faster than my other 2 B5 S4s.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty disappointed with the dyno results. When I purchased the car it was claimed it to have put down 370HP and 410TQ on 034’s Mustang dyno when 034 Motorsport installed thier fueling kit in 2011.

Today the car made 300hp 323tq to the wheels on Griffin Motorwerke’s mustang dyno.

    Print of 1st run.

The current theory is that after 2011 the car was retuned at 034 Motorsports to a “Stage 3-“ or equivalent in order to pass smog and then never retuned to the “Stage 3” file.

The difficult thing here is that 034 Motorsports “new system” does not have any service records prior to 2015. I asked if 034 might have the dyno sheets from when it was originally tuned back in 2011 to the claimed power levels so I could at lease verify the previous owners claims and I was told that they likely do have those dyno sheets but they do not give them out.

Another difficult discovery is that unfortunately there’s no way to tell whether the car currently has a stage 3 or stage 3- tune. The only thing that can really be done is to try and throw a new stage 3 tune on the car then perform another baseline dyno and see if the numbers change. If they don’t then all of that money is wasted on the re-tune and 2nd baseline dyno.

Uh, that dyno graph looks horrendous. It needs a tune badly. Why do you worry that a new tune will not fix the issues you are facing? Also comparing dyno numbers on different dynos on different days is iffy enough to really see if claimed power numbers are accurate. Let alone different dynos more than half a decade apart. I would worry much less about claimed wheel HP numbers, and be much more concerned with the fact that the car has been driven on a terrible tune for 5-7 years. Peak numbers don't mean anything if the car drives like garbage.

If it was detuned to a Stage 3- that would be a bit confusing because is still has 550cc injectors but that might explain some of the instability seen in the dyno. It could be like a faulty N75 since the AFRs look very good and stable. Not sure at this point. I would like to have a bit more information before potentially wasting the money on a retune and 2nd baseline dyno. There was misfiring at idle only so later in the day i installed a RS6 coils conversion with the ICM delete and a new MAF. The misfires have yet to return.

Both 034 and Griffin use mustang dynos and they are usually with a few HP of each other. That is why i opted to go with Griffin. I would likely have gone to 034, HOWEVER they no longer dyno cars outside of special events.

True, the silver lining in your whole ordeal is that the AFRs are stable which is good. That boost fluctuation is pointing to a problem, the same with the dips in the power and tq curves. Something is happening and it looks like it is pulling timing or boost. Maybe spark blowout? would also explain the misfire if you had a bad coil. I wish you luck in getting this thing fixed. Always had a soft spot for b5 s4s.

034 does not have a Mustang Dyno IIRC. They have another brand that's not super common.
