Lightbulb Best way to paint the front impact bar

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Before installing my RS6 grille, I covered the impact bar with a black vinyl wrap. Well now it's peeling and I don't want to take the bumper off to wrap it again. Anyone have any solutions to paint it without removing the bumper and not getting paint on the grill (or any other part of the body)? I was thinking of a black rubber sealant, but I want one with a straw tip (like the one attached to a WD-40 can). But I haven't been able to find one.

    Ideas? Thanks!

As much as I HATE taking off the front bumper (I'm getting really good at it by now, having done it multiple times, unfortunately), you really need to take it off to be able to get the results you want on your crash bar. Once the bumper is off, it's actually pretty easy to also remove he crash bar (but not necessary) in order to get the best results. Recommend finding black truck-bed liner. Forms a resilient coat that won't chip nearly as easily as a wrap or plain spray paint.

Some good news- it's actually not too hard to get to the bolts to remove the bumper without having to raise the car- just turn the wheels all the way in either direction and you can get to the bolts reasonably easily (of course, I didn't learn this until raising the car and removing the front wheels several times for various mods).

It wasn't terrible for me either, just took a lot of time and I needed someone to help me. There are just a few spots that I need to cover, so I think something like a sealant or truck bed coating should work just fine. I may just buy a quart of it and use a brush.

This! Excellent thread- the one thing I would add is that you can get to everything you need to without jacking up the car. Just turn the wheels all the way to the right and remove the driver’s side bolts, and then all the way left to remove the passenger side bolts. You can get to the torx screws under the bumper by using the raise function in the MMI
