    B&O Amplifier Issue

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Everyone,

For a while now i've been without radio and Bluetooth phone calls. The problem I believe is that my B&O Amp shit the bed (below is a VCDS Scan of the Sound System). So i have a few questions and looking for suggestions on how to fix this.

I can do the following, replace the amp with a new or used Amp. The problem with this is this will still require a trip to the dealer to remove component protection. I am curious if I am able to replace the B&O amp with an aftermarket amp all together as this would probably be cheaper than the other route. Looking for suggestions on this.

I was considering this if mine ever died. I have replaced all my speakers with Audison already so this would be the final step

I should also add. I'm not a audio/music person. It's mostly background noise for me. I've been driving now for a few months with no radio at all.

    Replace the factory amp..

Going down the other route would require more amplifiers, a special fiber optic converter, etc.

I agree fixing or replacing with a factory amp sounds like it's the easiest route.

    let me know,
So... I opened up the amp and found a smb capacitor just laying there on the bottom of the case. I'm gonna try to repair this and cross my fingers that it starts working again.

Looks like a 14 or 16 pin DIP IC from here. But there are no spaces empty on the board.

Yeah. That was from the underside of the board. I haven't sodered it back on yet though.

Weird. Could it have shorted & overheated so badly that it desoldered itself or was it broken off by impact? You may want to get one on Amazon and replace it if you can.

Did the part come off of the smaller, or larger board?
The smaller board is the DSP and processor board, the larger is the audio amplifier board. If the part came off the larger board, and you can't fix it, there is another option for you.
The "Component Protection" feature is resident on the DSP/Processor board. I bet you could buy a used Amp (same part # and revision) off of Ebay, open it up, and remove (unplug) the amp board from the processor board, and plug the good Amp board into your original Processor board, and then you would not have to hassle with removal of component protection at the dealership.

Hey so I finally got around to getting the smb style capacitor sodered back to the baord. However the amp did not work still.

With that said I ended up picking up a used amp from the for sale sign in here and replaced my amp. Guess what, I now have audio in my car(first time in like 6 months). Now I need to take a trip to the dealer to get component protection removed (this might take me another 6 months lol).

So the capacitor came off of the smaller board. So I think my only option with the old amp is reading the EEPRom off of it and copying it over to the new one.

Yes you are not able to just use an aftermarket amp you have to use either the factory or both , but there is a guy you can send them too to fix but can find used ones online for about 100

Is it possible to find another amplifier board for another amp with different part numbers, I am experiencing the same thing except couldnt find any broken circuits. I have access to fix component protection so that is not a limitation, its just finding a 8T0035223T at a reasonable price.
