To anyone who has removed the front plate...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
When I ordered my car back in November, I wanted the plate delete option, but the manager ordering it said they always order it with it, it’s just thrown in the trunk at the factory, and then just don’t put it on if the customer requests, so I went with that.

Fast forward to today, car is 2-3 weeks out, and I went in to do some paperwork. I asked my salesperson if they could not install the plate bracket during PDI when the car comes in, and she stated they were installed at the factory. I’m 80% sure that is not the case, so here we are.

So I guess my question is, if it is in fact installed on the car, can someone please post pics of the grille with a bracket that has been removed. I have seen a couple online but the little mount things don’t have holes pierced in them so I am confused how this thing mounts and if taking it off will leave holes?

    Thanks

Hmm that’s weird. when i asked for front plate delete they included the option and said no problem.

Is it on that final spec sheet you signed?

Yeah, because I know on both of the previous cars I bought (both GTI’s) they came with brackets but they were just in the trunk, so I didn’t think much of it.

You're going to be disappointed. On the TTRS the holes can be covered up. Where as on the RS3, if you did not choose the plate delete option (which I did), you'll see 4 holes in the bumper. No way to cover them for the RS3.

And lets hope the car is 2-3 weeks out. I'm still not finalizing my financing till it leaves port.

They come to the dealer without it.
I told my SA repeatedly not to install it and they looked the other one when I drove off without the front temp badge on...your dealer is full of it.IMG_5007.JPG

If you look closer into the bumper, the holes are drilled.

This is why this is so friggin confusing. Even if you order without the bracket, those little tabs have dimples in them, 100%. So what I don’t know is if those dimples get punched when the plate bracket is installed or if it mounts another way. I remember seeing someone’s picture who took it off and I could have sworn those dimples were NOT punched but I can’t find the picture now.

2-3 weeks is accurate, us Canucks luckily do not have to deal with the hold. Car was loaded onto a train from Halifax yesterday.

To be honest, there's not much you can do now except work with your SA to make sure the plate is not installed.

Well that was the original plan but she seems to think they are installed at the factory

This is an RS3 I test drove back in December. Buyer backed out because it was taking too long to come in so it was just sitting on the lot. You can see the dimples where it gets mounted. Pretty sure this one never had a front plate. Does this help?

They all have the dimples. I’m wondering if those dimples get punched through when the bracket is installed.

If it’s removed you have holes instead of dimples

I see. Yes -- pretty sure the screws to mount the front plate go through the dimples. Seems really weird for your dealer to tell you that the plate bracket is installed at the factory. this one clearly didn't.

You’re sure it was ordered with the bracket option? I assume in NY it would be.

Im on the same boat Mr potatohead. I already advised the dealer i do not want it installed. But they never told me about the option when i ordered. Whats stupid is that in my state front plates are not used, so why the fuck would you order it with a front plate lol.

i don't know for sure. this wasn't my order. This was a NJ dealer, and they get a fair amount of PA purchasers as well (1 plate state), so it's hard to say.

Well they must know they don’t come mounted then because nobody would want it. I think my SA is just flat wrong. I’ll email her and let her know it doesn’t come on and just leave it off.

I forgot this delete when I first ordered. I emailed my SA 2 days later and he did the delete option on the order before it closed.

As pointed out I believe it gets installed by the dealer.

My SA said the same thing and lo and behold it wasn't installed... it's just the plastic bracket thrown in the trunk. I have come to learn that the dealer installs the front plate bracket during PDI

The delete just means the car doesn't include the bracket. I'm in NJ and I let her order it with front plate and just told her later not to install.
Mine is a TT RS but I just have the dimples, it's part of the grill no deleting that.

Some people don’t care about their jobs so they don’t put any attention. My SALES MANAGER is not even sure himself if it comes on or off, i told him to not install it if it does not come installed. Thats what happens when you sit on a computer the whole day on Amazon or bangbros and don’t pay attention what goes on outside your own dealer.

Just to clear out lots of misunderstandings here...

When you order with front plate delete kit, there is ZERO physical difference between car ordered with one and the one without.

Only difference would be the car ordered with front plate delete will not include the bracket that will be installed at the dealership. Confirmed this from dealership who sold three RS3 and one without plate delete checked (mine which was 2017 launch edition) vs two others that were ordered with front plate delete option.

IMO best thing to do is to order with front plate bracket and tell dealership to not install it. So you still get the bracket just in case.

I ordered my car with the front plate delete. On the order form submitted to Audi, it shows "6W9 - DELETE Front License Plate Holder". On the window sticker it lists "Front filler panel (included)" as one of the Packages/Options. And this is what the front of my car looks like: https://i.imgur.com/WJrRNir.jpg

I forgot to ask for front plate delete, but was a non-issue as it just came in the trunk. They asked me during PDI if I wanted it installed.

So bringing this back up from the dead, I went to another dealer since i saw they also have an RS3 coming in same as the one i ordered but with carbon fiber mirrors but this one had the license plate delete option. I asked the dealer if it did not have that option would it come with the plate installed, he said yes, and that they do it at the port and make money off of Audi blah blah blah. So between my dealer not knowing and this one saying that it does come with it i'm pretty sure it's gonna have the holes punched in it. the good side is that the other RS3 from the other dealer has an RS3 but $700 more expensive due to the CF mirrors and arrives 2 weeks after mines.

what would you guys do? wait even longer (2 weeks) or get the one with the holes from plate? is this a Florida thing only?

Id wait 2 weeks... the grille is an important part of an RS model and I wouldn't be happy having holes punched in it.

My car had the front plate option but I told my dealer not to install it. He said same as your guy, port installs it. However, the car showed up without it installed and my SA made sure to tell his techs not to install it. I also told my SA if it's installed I'm not buying the car... lol

agreed with timzcat. all this means is that it doesn't come with license plate holder from the factory. It is dealer installed.

my RS3 didn't have the front plate delete option, bracket for it was in the trunk. TTRS they had, had the front plate delete and the buyer was pissed (from NY) and needed the front bracket. He had to buy it as the car was ordered without it.

The car does not come with the plate bracket installed. I don't know why they think it does, maybe it does on other models. Ultimately my car still has the front plate and frame in the car under the trunk floor.

that sales manager seemed pretty sure about what he was saying. I sure hope it does not come with it on. would hate to keep waiting two more weeks.

Agree here with Potatohead. I picked up a cancelled RS3 order last Friday that had the front license plate. Told SA not to install and sure enough the plate was in the trunk, dimples are in the front grill but no holes. Front plate is installed at the dealership.

I know there are fillers for the 4 openings that completely blank it on the TT RS. It appear it would make it more noticable from a difference so I don't see the point if the plate was never installed.
