    2018 A6 Summer Tire Size

    Hey guys,

    I purchased an 18 A6 Comp in JANUARY, drove it home, and then swapped to winter wheels and tires 2 days later. My original tiers are Pirelli PZero 255/35/20. I'd much rather have Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for summer -- or maybe even the AS3 ("all season") but in 265/35/20 or even 275/35/20...

    Does anyone have experience stuffing 265/35 or 275/35 onto stock 20" wheels on A6 with "sport suspension"? Am I looking at rubbing issues if I do this?

    265 should be fine on 8.5" rim

    I also have a set of 20'' 8.5j ET 45 rims and after a lot of research I concluded that 255 is the maximum width

    Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/km Difference

    255/40-19 102mm 343mm 687mm 2157mm 464 0.0%
    255/35-20 89mm 343mm 686mm 2157mm 464 -0.0%
    265/35-20 93mm 347mm 694mm 2179mm 459 1.0%

    235/45-19 106mm 347mm 694mm 2181mm 459 1.1%

    So while there is only 0.4cm difference between 255 and 265, the problem is related to what J you have on your rims. If its only 8.5j, then i recommend sticking to 255, otherwise the tyre will look bulged! There are numerous threads on this.

    I've also researched tyre width and here are some numbers that I've found (Continental EXTREMECONTACT SPORT - SIZE: 255/35ZR20 - is the widest) :

    255/35R20 TYRES

    Bridgestone POTENZA S001 - SIZE: 255/35R20
    Width = 10.2” = 25.908cm
    Weight = 27 lbs = 12.24kg
    Rim range = 8.5 - 10”

    Continental EXTREMECONTACT SPORT - SIZE: 255/35ZR20
    Width = 10.7” = 27.178cm
    Weight = 25 lbs = 11.33kg
    Rim range = 8-10”

    Dunlop SP SPORT MAXX - SIZE: 255/35ZR20
    Width = 10.6” = 26.924cm
    Weight = 29 lbs = 13.15kg
    Rim range = 8.5 - 10”

    Hankook VENTUS V12 EVO2 - SIZE: 255/35ZR20
    Width = 10.2” = 25.908cm
    Weight = 26 lbs = 11.79kg
    Rim range = 8.5 - 10”

    Kumho ECSTA PS91 - SIZE: 255/35ZR20
    Width = 10.2” = 25.908cm
    Weight = 28 lbs = 12.70kg
    Rim range = 8.5 - 10”

    Michelin PILOT SPORT 4S - SIZE: 255/35ZR20
    Width = 10.2” = 25.908cm
    Weight = 25 lbs = 11.33kg
    Rim range = 8.5 - 10”

    Pirelli P ZERO - SIZE: 255/35ZR20
    Width = 10.4” = 26.416cm
    Weight = 26 lbs = 11.79kg
    Rim range = 8.5 - 10”

    Yokohama ADVAN SPORT - SIZE: 255/35R20
    Width = 10.4” = 26.416cm
    Weight = 27 lbs = 12.24kg
    Rim range = 8.5 - 10”

    265/35R20 TYRES

    Bridgestone POTENZA S001 - SIZE: 265/35ZR20
    Width = 10.7” = 27.178cm
    Weight = 29 lbs = 13.15kg
    Rim range = 9-10.5”

    Continental EXTREMECONTACT SPORT - SIZE: 265/35ZR20
    Width = 10.7” = 27.178cm
    Weight = 26 lbs = 11.79kg
    Rim range = 9-10.5”

    Goodyear EAGLE F1 ASYMMETRIC 2 - SIZE: 265/35ZR20
    Width = 10.7” = 27.178cm
    Weight = 25 lbs = 11.33kg
    Rim range = 9-10.5”

    Yokohama ADVAN SPORT - SIZE: 265/35ZR20
    Width = 10.9” = 27.686cm
    Weight = 30 lbs = 13.60kg
    Rim range = 9-10.5”

    Please provide your exact rim details (J and ET) and then we can help to tell you if it will rub or not - but if it's OEM A6 rim is probably 8.5jx20xET43 or ET45).

    Wow; that’s detail!

    Mine are 20” Sport with PZeros. NUMBER*4G9601025M
    • Ronel; made in Italy
    • SIZE 20 X 8.5, ET 43
    Guy at discount tire says I can do 265/35/20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, similar to what I had on my 335, but in 20”.

    I'd not put 265s on those wheels. You could, but it's definitely not recommended, especially if you plan to drive spiritedly. Freaking Audi even left those sizes for the S6, which is stupid IMO. But the 3 experts I asked said 255 is the maximum recommended for that width (even though you could shoehorn a 265), so left the Conti DWS06 tire size stock. It's definitely undersized for the S6, but perfectly fine with an A6 IMO, so I'd stick to OEM size.

    A 9.5” wheel with 275 or 285 would be about perfect!!
