been looking at getting new tires since i got a used pair of 21” stocks refurbished. i live in nyc and the roads are pothole friendly. i been doing alot of research regarding the 265 size as prefered tire but some ppl said you need spacers as cornering may cause rubbing? im looking at lexani and atturo az850 tires... i dont need anything crazy but would like a go and not worry bout fitment . should i buy spacers ? if so what size 10-15 i read in front and 20 rear?

I have the Atturo's in 265 without spacers and there is no rubbing. Definitely happy with them for the price point.

I just bought 265's for my stock ride height and probably could have gotten away without spacers, but i got a a 12mm front, and 20mm rear to make the wheels sit flush and i have had no issues.

Sorry, I don’t have the atturo’s to post a pic, I went with the pirelli scorpion verde all-seasons for the time being. I can post those if you think that would help?

The clearance issue isn't the width. . .it's the height. The Atturo 265/40 is the maximum tire diameter (29.4") that you can go.
This picture shows how close it is at stock height:

If someone had an issue and were so inclined, they could grind down that aluminum flash sticking down.

I'm sticking with the stock 255/45 OEM summer tires on 20 inch rims. Those of us who live with a lot of pot holes need a bit more sidewall to protect the rims from damage. And these 255mm Bridgestone summer tires seems to stick like glue even with my Stage 2 tune.

Can't address handling of the 265mm versus 255mm but often going wider does not improve handling and only increases weight.

I realize that the change may be for cosmetic reasons, and that's cool. I just make my decisions based on whether the change is practical (potholes, rim rash, risk of bent rims) and whether it actually improves performance.

I wonder why Tire Rack does not stock or list the tires OP prefers? I'm not familiar with the manufacturer, Atturo, and can't find any objective test results on them, mostly just anecdotal statements from users shortly after installing them. I'd love to learn more. I admit to a certain level of skepticism given that they seem to be actually made by Federal Tire in either China or Taiwan, as far as I can tell and are branded by a US company that has Federal make them under contract. This may be hit or miss quality control, as with so many other non-Japanese products made in Asian countries. Either great or not so great depending on the factory day-to-day.

Might be a dumb question but aren't 265 tires outside of the recommended tire size for a 8.5" rim?

Depends on the manufacturer; some are more conservative with recommended tire sizes for wheel width for liability reasons. I'm sure plenty of people on here have run 265's on their 8.5 wheels with no issues.

I went with the Atturo 265s w/o spacers and no issues at all. They've worn well through 20K so far.

Can't beat the price. I just snagged a set in 20' They are $1000 less than Michelin I was looking at.
Extremely pleased with the ride so far, maybe a bit loud I think. Not anything but a few roads around town so far and a quick blast one exit on the freeway to 95 to test the balance. All good.

That's such a bargain. Makes you wonder what sort of margins the 'other tires guys' are getting.

Must be how they afford the fancy race teams.

Ha ha, yep, that's how they spend their $. Some choose star names to do the talking, others focus on product. Same with shoes(Nike).

Update -I am so pleased with these tires. I was wrong they are not noisy, they ride fantastic, Handle great on 17 , they don't follow the grooves as I expected. ( even on 85 in Los gatos area) I would say it became an upgrade from the stock setup with Goodyear excellence tires. Nothing negative that I can feel. Good through the standing water as well. WAY better than the Nitto tire that came with my wheels- no 100% better.

Between the tires- both looks and feel, the steering update, the sunroof rattle fix and then hush mat in the trunk this is really getting good.

Hehe that would be fun. I used to live in the Saratoga area and started surfing in the mid 70's. I've had thousands of trips over the hill . I know every turn, pothole and parking spot for the cops that radar. Unfortunately that only leaves me few options for letting it rip,, however I do tend to just cruise it on some corners 20 over limit and that gives me a real feel for how the car handles. The sq just laughs at the corners.

I used the tweak on the height of the suspension on my B5 and it was interesting how much 3/8" different up or down in the back effected the handling in the corners.

Also I find the SQ has the best lack of bump steer of pretty much any car I've driven.

I've been helping out my dad on the weekends who lives in the evergreen area. Funny how I don't really mind driving over there. Luckily It's a way to enjoy my SQ. When your not driving to work and getting stuck in traffic it makes a big difference in the enjoyment factor.

Are the Atturo's an "All-Season" tire? Also is tire-easy the cheapest place to get the 265/40/21? thanks!

I am blessed to live in rural America, about 20 miles away from my office. The first 12 miles is freshly resurfaced two lane with quite a few twisties. Makes driving fun. We have almost no winter here so I run true summer tires all year. If Altura makes a suitable tire for my 20" rims, I may give them a try.
