    Door Panel Rattle

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Took my car to the dealership to fix a door rattle, they took the door off, placed some "extra insulation" under there and of course everything is just worse now.

Had a few questions about the door panels since I'm going to fix it myself.

Saw a bunch of good guides: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ith-remote-fob

If the clips are broken (I suspect they are) are these easy to replace?

If I end up needing a new door panel, is it possible to swap the leather armrest and the colored side inlay from mine onto one I buy? Or is it all one piece?

    Thanks

The clips are easy to replace. You should be able to find them on ECS. I actual arm rest is usually easy to swap over. It's usually a few screws on the reverse side. The inlay, on the other hand, I'm not sure about.

Check out this thread from Audi Enthusiast's website. Very good step-by-step photos and tips for getting into the doors. This was for a door lighting project he did, but you'll find it very helpful for your project.

Thanks - awesome link but wondering if it would be possible to get a black door panel and then swap my (red) side inlay into it?

    Thanks

I have a rattle or buzz in my drivers door. It is the under side of the arm rest portion. It is plastic under there and it occurs right where two parts come together. If I put pressure on it with my finger it stops. Not sure how to fix something like this. Any thoughts.

    Door Panel Rattle

    Rattle From Rear Passenger Door
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=794935

Check out this thread. I had to tighten the torx screws on my door.

Worse case is take the door apart and add insulation/replace clips and snug everything back up. I don’t think replacing an entire panel is necessary yet..

Go buy some dynamat or equivalent (I had raammat) or some closed cell foam to provide some additional insulating properties. May settle down the rattle by damping the vibrations.

When you take the door panel off, you will see that the wires and held in by white plastic clips that snap into the door. They aren't very snug. Get some dynamat and tape it over these areas. Also the wiring is a bit loose, get some tywraps while you are at it to secure everything nice and sng

Dealership ended up only making the rattle worse

Took off my door panel today and fixed the damn rattle myself!

Use the shimmy tool to take the insert off, under here you'll find 2 T20 Torx Screws

Take off the plast insert under the armrest, there will be 2 more T20 Torx Screws under here

Don't forget this last screw under here

Here is a nice pic showing all of the screw locations:

You can see the loose wire the stealership left for me

    Dynamatted

Also replaced a couple of broken clips on the door panel

Rattle is 100% gone, road noise is decreased

Make sure you start on the outside of the trim. The side closer to the outside door handle, not the side closer to the inner door handle. The clips on the inside are like a hinge. If you start there, you’ll break them.

I just pulled the entire panel to replace a rear door lock actuator.
