    Hey Jake,

How much custom fabrication does the kit require? I heard there was some cutting involved with the crash bar/support beam?

    Thanks,

There is some cutting and trimming, but not too bad.

right.. with installation i am guessing it will come close to 9-10k? so with that money, i am sure you can get the new b8.5 assuming a persons car is paid off.

i bought my 09 S5 in 2016 it was 24k at the same time a b8.5 was 34kish. the 10k difference is the price of the supercharger essentially. of course there are the randos that are much cheaper but the market price is about a 10k difference anyways.

Get a couple wrenches and screw drivers and you can do everything about the install yourself, including the tuning I believe.

I'm brand new to the Audi scene. In fact, I'm still looking for my first one. But in the last month, I've driven B7/8 S4s and B8/8.5 S5s both in MT and Auto, so I thought I would share my two cents, for what it's worth.
All of the Audi's I drove were amazing. Both the 4.2 and 3.0T will equally push you back in your seat when you step on the gas (and make you smile the whole time). So using 10k to get the B8.5 isn't getting you more power. It is much cheaper to get more power out of the 3.0T, but you still have to mod it which takes more money. Personally, I've settled on a B8 S5 for the V8. It does cost more to mod that beautiful NA V8, but you can't replicate the sound. So it really boils down to preference. for me, the JHM supercharger is worth it to keep the V8, others will be just as happy moving to the 3.0T. Hope this helps.

Hey I'm brand new to the Audi scene too and I ended up with the B8 V8 S5. My buddy has a B8.5 supercharged V6 but it just didn't have the sound I was looking for. After a muffler delete I'm really happy with the sound as a DD. If I were to get an exhaust it would probably be Fast Intentions' resonated exhaust.

We worked with FI to finalize that system like we did with the B6-B7 S4 and its by far our favorite

Nice, Jake! Deleting the rear mufflers only on this car gives it a deeper muscle car sound, but that FI exhaust really makes the V8 exotic sounding. I was sold after hearing the non-res version on Diamond Dog's car here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-Pipe-My-Build

I've had the JHM supercharger kit on my car for about a year and a half I believe. Not one issue. I've done a couple 5 hour cruises. Autocrossed it at Lime rock park. Along with some spirited driving in the catskill mountains. Not one hiccup. Installed and did the tune myself in a weekend. I have a mechanical background but I've never taken a b8 apart before until the install. I'd do it all over again opposed to getting a b8.5 stock v6. Sound is no where near as good and you would still have to dump a few grand into the b8.5 to get it up to the v8 supercharged power level. No brainer to me. I've never been happier with supercharger kit. ALLLLLLLLSO....with JHM stg1+ out now you can really get the hp numbers up over the b8.5 ultracharger. Nothing beats the v8 except the cost up mods on the b8.5. But the smile is bigger with the v8.

Which components (like the clutch) did you also upgrade?

This is excellent to hear. I wanted to do it myself as well, and really save on the cost. How many miles have you driven with the kit installed?

On a standard the clutch is a requirement with all the power added. I used the JHM 3R clutch kit with lightweight fly. Awesome set up. Smooth but tight grab, no chatter, stock feel with 50% heavier push. Nothing like the old 6 pucks I used to run in the vr6 builds. Beautiful clutch.

It's a tedious job but not difficult. Just take your time even it it takes an extra day. If you have any questions on the install feel free to dm me.

I'm keen to do the same with my MY09 S5 4.2 and am keen to hear about the experience. Spax_ar you did the work yourself? We're the JHM instructions easy to follow? Did the tune require anything special apart from the flash?

Thanks for the info guys as reliability is my main objective for me as I add mods. I was waiting for this post as I too plan on getting a JHM SC for my 08 S5. I don't ever plan on selling it and I drive it a lot, just hit 100000mi this past weekend. I drive long distances and I don't want to limit the practicality of the the car. Powerful and comfortable is what I'm seeking as well as being sporty at the same time. I also ordered the FI exhaust non resonated which should arrive in a couple more weeks (8 week time span..) and next model will be the JHM stage 1.

Yes did the work myself. I do most all my own work on all my cars. This was the first b8 I had ever taken apart. JHM instructions are great. LOTS of pictures showing exactly what and where. I think it was around 13 or 14 hours all said and done. Pulling it onto the lift. Off the lift. Doing the flash. Tune was a lot simpler than I had anticipated as I was worried I might eff it up. Login, plug into the obd port and drop the tune. Only point to stress is make sure you have a charger on the car battery and the laptop plugged in with a perfect wifi signal. The flash takes a little time and you do not want any fluctuations in voltage on the car or the laptop to skip a beat. Overall great install experience. Love the kit. Saving up for stage 2 upgrade.

There is only a slight power increase going from stage 1 to 2. The most noticeable difference is that peak boost moved from like 5500 rpm to 7k rpm. Before it would hit peak boost at 5500 then by 7k it would have dropped like 2psi. So the car feels stronger on the top end now.

Yes you can search for my results on that. But in a nutshell, stage 2 actually is slower than stage 1. My 1/4 mile time with stage 1 was 12.3@117mph. With stage 2 it's 12.9@110mph. Jhm is going ro be working on a fix for this.

Sorry to bring up an older post. Am trying to decide between a 2012/13 TT RS or 2012 S5 V8 plus the JHM supercharger. Sadly the RS5 does not have a manual option. Manual is a must as this will be my weekend fun vehicle. Coming from a long list of German 400 - 500 hp vehicles over the years but DD now is a Tesla so looking for nostalgic engine sound and manual shift action. Back roads, track maybe 1-2 year.
    Only other option is a E90 M3 manual v8.

Anyway, any updates from anyone who has driven the JHM option for a while? I would value reliability over absolute maximum power.

RS5 with our supercharger is still very fun =] We also have what we call True Manual Mode in the TCU software so it won't auto shift for you.

    Something to keep consider

What do you like more, The sound of a V8 or the sound of a DI 5cyl ?
