Adding backup camera and parking sensors to Concert stereo in 2015 Q5?

I've scoured the different threads about retrofitting MMI 3g and other options for cars that did not come with it, and I am not quite clear on what I need. Can someone hold my hand and walk me through this please? I have done aftermarket car audio for years, but for some reason I can't seem to get all this straight in my head. Audi and their 18 variations of MMI and non-MMI have me spinning.

So I have a 2015 Q5 3.0T S-Line. It came with the Concert which I learned today is considered "base MMI." It does not have Nav, but does have the SD card slot and iPod interface in the glovebox. It also does BT but only for streaming calls. I don't care so much about Nav, and I can add the BT adapter to the iPod connection for music streaming, but the two features I'm really missing are the backup camera and the parking sensors (particularly the rear). How hard is it to add these on? Do they require MMI 3g/3g+? If so, what is required to convert mine over? Can I keep the display and just change the "headunit" portion in the dash to the Multimedia version that's in my S4, and the center console joystick setup?

Are the factory wires to the backup cameras pre-run on all vehicles whether they come with this option or not? Ideally this is the case, and I can just connect an OE camera and be done with that part of it. Would I need to replace my bumpers for ones that have parking sensors? I'm wondering how involved this is going to be, and if it's worth it. Another option would be to do the Alpine X702 setup, but that's $2k+ with everything, and it appears I can do an entire 3G MMI swap for around half of that. If someone can give me a list of parts (and possible sources) that I'll need to add these things, I'd greatly appreciate it!

You should be able to retrofit the Q5 with an Alpine head unit similar to the X702D-A4 used in the A4. It's a direct replacement for the factory head unit and has a larger touch screen display. It interfaces with the car systems so you can monitor oil level and such just like the factory head unit. Alpine makes a line of backup cameras that can be used with the head unit and a mounting bracket that replaces the rear trunk latch. It's made for the European market but works fine here in the U.S. models. You can buy the North American maps for the nav system for about $80. You will have to run the wire yourself for the backup camera, but it shouldn't be all that hard if you're used to installing aftermarket systems.

    Mickey7128,

If you are interested in adding back-up camera capability, check out the link below. I installed the CarsGadget Interface in my 2015 A5 and I am extremely happy with it. The installation was plug & play. There was no cutting or tapping into any existing wires. Also, I attached photo of the interior screen and exterior camera view. I don't have rear sensors, so that is not a must to incorporate the back-up camera..

I have set my sights on the Alpine X702D-A5. It's a bit pricey, but I like the features and I intend to add aftermarket amplifiers.

Much appreciated guys! If I can get the camera done easily, that may be enough for now (it’s the wife’s car). Where does the backup camera plug in? Does the cable run all the way to the dash or is there a factory brain in the cargo area? Has anyone added parking sensors? That seems a bit more involved.

    Mikey7182.

The wire for the back-up camera will run from the truck to the glove compartment where it connects to the CarsGadget interface. I don't think the interface has the capability to add sensors, however, I am not 100% sure. The CarsGadget Unit was the most affordable aftermarket interface I could find to add back-up camera, keeping the OEM look. Hopefully you're find what you're looking for. I am totally satisfied with the CarsGadget interface and will only remove if I decide to go with the Alpine X702D-A5.
